A Russian arrives in New York City as a new immigrant to the United States. It's 11:00 AM on a Wednesday. He stops the first person he sees walking down the street and says, " Thank you Mr. American for letting me come into this country, giving me housing, food stamps, free medical care, and a free education!"

The passerby says, "You are mistaken, I am a Mexican and here illegally."

The man goes on and encounters another passerby. "Thank you for having such a beautiful country here in America.

The person says, "I not American, I'm Vietnamese and here on a Green Card that expired two years ago."

The new arrival walks farther and stops the next person he sees, then shaking his hand, and says, "Thank you for wonderful America!?

That person puts up his hand and says, "I am from Middle East. I am not American. It was easy to get here via Arizona."

He finally sees a nice lady and asks, "Are you an American?" She says, "No, I am from Africa here on an Education Green Card that expired 10 years ago."

Puzzled, he asks her, "Where are all the Americans?" The African lady checks her watch and says: "Probably at work."

The vast majority of the Russians, Vietnamese, Cambodians, and Mexicans that I know will work the @%$ off of most Americans; plus they will happily work overtime and on Saturdays too.

Not sure if youve ever been to NYC but most immigrants there look at others as lazy if they only have 2 jobs. They didnt come half way around the world to sit in their hands. They left countries that have safety nets so they didnt come here for welfare.....they came to work and make money.

And there are plenty who came here because of all the free stuff. I know because I work among them and see them sitting outside their low income housing smoking. Many of them don't work or some go to school which is free, just like the medical care they get while many American-born people have no medical care because they can't afford it.

I agree. Mexicans and Vietnamese in particular are for the most part hard workers. If they have come here to work and make a better life for themselves and assimilate to become Americans, I'm all for them.

However, there are some who are not that way in their thinking. They do come here for the free stuff that they know they will receive. They are coming from a country where there is murder, kidnapping, and all forms of persecution. And they aren't interested in assimilating into becoming Americans, but want to change America to be like the country they came from.

We have people living in America, natural-born citizens living in poverty. I will never understand why we don't take care of them first? Why as citizens aren't they eligible for the same free stuff immigrants are? Makes no sense to me.

And 75% of Mexicans will vote for Democrats who want to expand social programs and redistribute wealth. Republicans have punted for so long on immigration that several states that used to be red or swing states are now forever blue, Texas will be blue by roughly 2028 and at that point whoever wins the democrat primary will win the election with ease. By 2034 the supreme court should be packed with liberal judges who do believe the constitution is a "living document" that should change with the times. But hey, atleast they are hard workers...

Take care of them how? If people choose to live in poverty here in the land of freedom and prosperity shouldn't we respect that choice and leave them to it?

You are right about Mexican Americans voting Democrat, however that is starting to change. Not because the Republican Party is starting to reach out to them, but because they see that Republican policies are better for the economy. The Republican Party leaders though are to too blind and arrogant to realize that 90% of Mexican Americans have conservative values and are a perfect fit for voting conservative. If the Republican Party doesn't wake up fast they will become extinct. The demographic changes that are coming to America are unstoppable.

The good news is that most of the immigrants who are changing the face of this County have conservative, family values; they are just uninformed about the difference between the two political parties. They listen to the media and hear that the Democrat party are the nice guys and the Republicans are the mean guys. No one is telling them otherwise (except me). Go make some friends with a few recent immigrants.

Problem is they happen to know that Trump is a republican and that he only likes immigrants from Norway.

I've worked in the construction industry the majority of my adult life. Hispanics on the job are for the most part hard workers. One reason for this is that the majority working have no intention of staying in the U.S.A. They come up with a crew, rooming as a crew,work three to five years,banking their money(often tax free), so as they may move back and live the easy life for awhile. Now plenty learn the system and play the system but so do many natural born citizens also. This is what I've seen here in Arkansas.

I believe this true wag, good post. I will add that this also falls true on Blacks and the other hyphen Americans. The smart informed absolute of these groups already picked up on what was thrown down but the rest need reached. IMO, the today Dems have morphed into Communism and the Republicans are the old school blue Democrats. True Constitutional Republicans haven't even yet realized we lost more than a step.

Politics that involve trapping/guns have always been allowed. The fact that the country is embracing (and why) a party that seems to have no positive regard for guns or trapping seems relevant imo.

As far as Hispanics starting to vote towards the right, that is untrue. The only group of Hispanics who vote near 50/50 Rep/Dem are Cubans who fled Castro. Voting trends have always seen Hispanics going around 70/30 in favor of the dems. Some are looking at Texas being a swing state as soon as 2020,Virginia is going/gone blue,Florida is going more blue, the reason is immigrants. The country is going blue and it is because of immigrants, that is a fact not a controversial statement.

The Democrats are speaking in Spanish during the primary, they know if Hispanics turn out they can flip Texas blue as soon as 2020. If you want more references I can supply you with stats to back up everything I have said just ask what you want to see more proof of.

With the current demographics there is almost no chance a Republican can win in 2024 in a presidential race. Several traditionally red states AZ,NM,CO,TX,FL will be very blue and sending democrat reps to Washington. By 2024 or 2028 for sure the race will be between socialist and socialist lite candidates. The supreme court will be majority liberal in 12 years and at that point the constitution is a living document meant to change with the times so dont plan on that protecting us and our rights any longer. The Dems are reaching out to the new immigrants by promising them free stuff, but the Dems don't really want them to ever get ahead or otherwise they may become tax paying citizens and stop voting Democrat. Some of these brownish folks are starting to figure it out.

I saw mentioned above that immigration used to be limited largely to western Europeans. Would you really want to go back to that? What percentage of western Europeans do you think are sympathetic to the animal rights movement versus people from Asia? Or would you be more comfortable with a white anti gun vegan immigrant than you would be with a brown gun loving meat eating immigrant?

There was plenty of East European Jews in New York prior to 1965. I'm listening to a book called City of Light- it's on the history of NYC.

What are the basis of your claims? I have shown polls that show Hispanics are voting 70/30 for dems as they always have historically, this if from 2018.

If you read my post a little more carefully you'll see I'm not disputing that the majority of Hispanics vote Democrat. I'm just pointing out why they vote Democrat, and what we might be able to do to get them to change that habit.

What could be done to get Hispanics to vote right? Since the 60s they have voted roughly the same way 70/30 for the left, what could make them change that now?

Pride in themselves, faith that they will be treated as they deserve and success will make Hispanics vote Republican.

Success by what metric? Therein lies the problem. There will be inequality in a capitalist system and that system favors those who possess certain inheritable traits. Almost impossible not to kill this thread and go further than that.

Ya that must be it... I tend to rely on facts and science to shape my beliefs not personal anecdotes. For the past 70+ years Hispanics have voted 70/30 to the left and they did that as recently as the 2018 elections. I am sure they are about to change and become conservatives though.

If you have been around here much and you have, you should realise that as long as other political discussions stay civil, they are generally allowed on Trapper Talk. You should of also noticed that the forum moderators frequently contribute to the other political discussions.

Paul has allowed some political threads, so long as they stay civil. The problem with political posts is that some people can't keep it civil. As is common in other settings, a few spoil things for the rest.

The reason Hispanics will be voting mostly D next year probably has something to do with the hostility shown by the Trump administration.

The other side of that questions why did so many people (Hispanics) start voting Democrat in California?

In 1994 The California Republican Part and their governor Pete Wilson backed proposition 187, this proposition was viewed by most legal Hispanics as very anti Hispanic. Prior to 1994 in the elections of 1985 and 1990 Hispanics voted Republican by close to 50%. After 1994 and Prop 187 Hispanics shifted very heavily to a vote for Democrats.

On the other hand in the late 90's the Texas Republican Party under George W. Bush rejected California's Prop 187 style of legislation and and developed good relations with Texas Hispanics. This resulted in Bush's share of the Hispanic vote jumping from 28 percent in 1994 to 50 percent in 1998.

These two examples in two States with a similar percentage of Hispanics shows that Republicans are capable of either driving people away from the Party, or they can chose to draw them in..

What we can't do is continue to stick our heads in the sand and hope these people go away (That's what France is doing), that is not going to happen.
Recent immigrants to this Country want the same thing as the rest of us; opportunity and freedom. Which Party is best able to offer them that? I would argue the Republican Party. However, the Democrats have done a much better job of including these people into their Party (with false hopes I would argue).

Prop 187 would of limited benefits to illegals,I guess if you want to appeal to Hispanic voters you have to allow unfettered immigration. Any historical allegiance Hispanics had to the right were due to one issue and that is abortion. 65% of first generation Hispanic immigrants believe abortion should be illegal and they are pretty passionate about it in my experience, among second generation only 43% believe it should be illegal. As abortion becomes more and more settled we have seen a further shift away from voting to the right.

Another point to remember is that Democrats used to be the anti immigration party.

But Trump got a greater percentage of the Hispanic vote than Romney got in 2014. And I'll bet Trump will get even a higher percentage next year.

Romney got 27% against an incumbent,Trump got 29% against Hilary's 71%, both of those are well within the expected historical norms. I agree more will support trump this time probably over 30% as there has been a historical incumbent advantage. If Hispanic vote ends up being over 30% in 2024 ill buy you a steak.

Your talking about 50-60 years ago. Since the 60's its made a transition from Conservative to Liberal.
