WI Governor Gets Rid of Capital Christmas Tree

WI Governor Gets Rid of Capital Christmas Tree - 11/14/19 05:53 PM

WI Governor Tony Evers doesn't like a Christmas tree being called a Christmas tree. So, he's changing it. According to a Washington Post article, Evers has said the Christmas tree in the capitol rotunda, as of this year will be called a "holiday" tree. What Evers has done is ridiculous and a slap in the face to the Christian community in WI.

I heard on the radio that the city council voted in favor of calling it a Christmas tree.

Tree in Capital name was changed many years ago to a Holiday Tree.. When Walker got in office he changed it back to a Christmas tree. They just changed it back to a Holiday tree again to get the Republicans all worked up again..
But there is still a tree there call it what ya want, nobody telling you ya can't.
It's Government calling it what they say they can and can't or shouldn't..

At least he's workin on the RR track thing aint he? I mean that's why some on here voted for him, right. Another funny thing is that he actually was in favor of the high speed rail, which would have created MORE RR tracks.
The Walker haters are responsible for us being saddled with Evers, own it.

Get the shrubbery out of the capital and end the whole debate. Politicians are mostly a waste of air.

If it's a CHRISTmas tree it's not pagan. If, as our puke Governor wants, it is a holiday tree I suppose it could be a pagan holiday.

Re: WI Governor Gets Rid of Capital Christmas Tree - 11/14/19 11:26 PM

Ah the Pagan Christmas story.

In the book of Genesis, start if you will in the Garden of Eden. 2 trees the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and later the tree of life. The tree has always been central to the Christian Faith. Good created the tree and it is referenced throughout the Bible. Why is Jesus birthday celebrated on December 25th the Winter Solstice (which God set) because it is the darkest of times and God gave us light and hope. Death to Life. When Adam chose to pick fruit from the forbidden tree he could never put it back. Jesus did that for us when he was placed on the tree for all of us. You see the tree represents so much for Christians. Thus teh Christmas Tree, not holiday tree.

My wife and I do celebrate Christmas because it is a tradition that is hard to break from past lives before salvation and biblical education. But Christmas is a compromise between two cultures. Mostly Catholic and pagan influence. And personally I believe Catholicism is worse than paganism.

Kind of rusty on all the details now. But Christ birthday may not even be in December and the tree is all pagan.

Didn't really catch on here in the states till like 1900 ish as marketing picked up. In fact, there are actually comments on record in our early history of curiosity as to why certain people were dragging trees in their house and decorating them.

I haven't read Danny's link. But he is right

Spot on. Christ was most likely born in early October.

I dunno about Oct specifically. When are lambs born in Israel?

Is that Oct here?

I have conservative Jewish friends who call it a "Christmas tree"; they even put one up.
The only people who are offended are limp-wristed snowflakes.

Christmas trees are only pagan if you are a pagan. Being a pagan is a decision, a tree can't make decisions.

Re: WI Governor Gets Rid of Capital Christmas Tree - 11/15/19 12:19 AM

Pike

Again I don't subscribe to a month.

Christ is the lamb of God. Kind of fascinates me.

Based also on a very old way of life, I would say the correct date will be more like September. Here is my reasoning drawn from own cultural heritage:

The shepherd’s throughout history would be moving between The Jordan Valley in the winter where it is warm and they move out in the spring time as the Judean Hills begin to get green from the winter rains.

In March they would be at the lower side of the Judean Hills where it would get green earlier and they will keep moving up in search of the tufts of grass and greenery as the months progress into late spring and summer where it gets greener at the higher elevations.

The harvest of the wheat in the Bethlehem region and certainly in the shepherd’s fields will occur in late May or in June. If we, remind ourselves this fall on the Jewish Holiday of Shavuot. And in the biblical Jewish traditon it is mandated to bring the offering of the first wheat to the Temple in Jerusalem. The farmers will allow the shepherds to come into their fields only after the harvest is completed and after the poor people are allowed to go into the fields to glean the wheat (Book of Ruth).

This is practiced in our villages till to date (The poor people after the harvest of the Olives would wait until the owners finish harvesting the olives and then they are allowed to go in to glean what is left. They are called in our language “Mitsayfin” – drawn from the word which means summer. (K’s note: This was also a biblical mandate in the Law.)

By our tradition we are told not to be too meticulous in picking all the olives. But to leave some for the “Mitsayfin” as it brings blessing to our household and promises a better harvest next year.

“Now, returning to the wheat harvest, the whole process would be finished by the end of June. The owners of the fields only then will allow the shepherd’s to bring in their flocks into their fields as it does help the farmer. The sheep will eat what is left of the wheat stalks and would fertilize the lands by the droppings as they are eating too.

Some Biblical scholars have theorized that the true birth was in March. If those shepherd’s bring in their sheep in March when the wheat barely start popping out of the soil or where the animals can trample the well plowed and sown soil, you will have a war on your hands. A war that has been fought throughout history – Cain and Abel, the Bedouins and the farmers, the cowboys and the sod busters.

How do we then arrive at the date in September. Again the answer can be discerned from the Bible. It is said that the Shepherd’s were staying awake at night when the Angels appeared. We have to understand the Lambing Season in the Holy land. The “lambing season” is directly relevant, like all mammals reproduction, to the time of mating. This only occurs naturally in the sheep world with the declining day light in the autumn which starts for us in September. The reason being that, in the evolutionary world, the offspring would appear in the spring when the grass starts to grow in order to feed the mother ewe so milk production is maximized. The gestation period of sheep is 147 days +/- 5 days.

During this mating season, the shepherd’s are out there at night keeping watch on their flock not only to protect them from the wolves or Hayenas, but also to separate the females that have already been mated from the rest of the male lambs. After the mating period the Shepherd’s will slowly make their trek back down into the Jordan Valley to camp out for the winter at the lower elevations.

Kind how we see it. Only we use the "weaker brother verses" to justify our Christmas tree. We don't live under the law anymore because of what Christ has done for us. We change our lives from old to new in Christ as God delivers us. Kinda like eating pork. Wasn't allowed at one point in time!

But the controversy comes from its original intended use. It marked the return of the sun god!

It was a compromise of Christian culture now to use it in conjunction with pagan culture.

If you really want a long, difficult read about this topic, pick up the book "Germanization of Early Christianity." It goes into scholarly level detail about how the Germanic tribes (pagans) influenced Christianity (Catholicism) as it spread across Europe.

Separation of Church and State was meant to keep the "state" outa the church, NOT the church outa the "state".

Re: WI Governor Gets Rid of Capital Christmas Tree - 11/15/19 12:59 PM

The first amendment doesn't say anything about separation of church and state. It says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." For whatever reason, we've taken this to mean that any government involvement with religion is bad. But, if you just look at what the text says, it would seem that it only applies to congress, and only to laws that congress makes. If the founders wanted it to apply to the other two branches of government, they would have specifically listed them, but they didn't. And if they wanted it to apply to any government involvement with religion, they could have, but again, they didn't. They seemed to only apply it to the legislative branch. If they wanted to keep religion out of government, they could have said something like "No member of the government shall promote or prohibit any religion or religious activity, and shall not participate in religious activities" So it would seem that a Christmas tree in a government building is fine, as long as the legislature didn't appropriate money for it, and certainly calling it a Christmas tree is fine.

I've had some form of Christmas tree in my house every year.. Because I can, no one ever said I couldn't, or told me I had to. well except maybe the wife.
That said when I worked for the city I would not let them order me to put up Christmas decorations.. I did put up Holiday decorations though..
Seems to me it's the self proclaimed "Good" Christians that complain the most about being oppressed.. If that is true why then are there 5 churches with in a half mile of my house? Can't count the number in our city..Who oppressed them? None paying property taxes that I know of either? Why? So they are supposed to have no voice in Government.. Right!
Seem to me if they were all on the same page with their belief there would be only a need for one church, one god.
They can't figure it out for them selves yet want to tell everyone else how to be..

I will see ya all for the solstice I will be the one dancing naked around the bonfire :-) Now that is a celebration.....

I am tired of whiney people who get offended by every little thing. no matter ones religious belief or lack there of, how does a Christmas tree alter anyone's right to believe as they choose? putting up a tree doesn't force anyone to do anything.

forcing someone to participate in prayer, or attend a religious rite, is unconstitutional. there is nothing unconstitutional about a display.

personally I think tax dollars should not be used but it would be a simple thing for a church, or group of churches, to solicit donations every year for a tree at the capital.

Danny, he has toned it down some after his hip replacement although he still has more moves than a rookie running back.
