wifes washing machine died and we bought a new one. grand daughter needed a new dresser so same thing. we searched both on line but just bought them local. I was up late last night putting the dresser together and got the washer hooked up Friday. I bet you don't need more than one guess to know what ads I saw when I checked the news this morning

We wanted to be able to surf the Web and get the best price, but it sure is a downside to it. It's getting to be like dealing with a used car salesman every time you make a Google search.

I was looking at something on the Northern Tool site one night at home on my personal laptop. The next day at work I pulled up the weather forecast on my work computer and there was an ad for that same product. They know everything.

It's crazy on how much we are tracked especially with our smartphones. I turn off most of the features to somewhat help. I don't keep location, bluetooth nfc, sync etc... on unless I absolutely need to. If you have location on even your photos will show that info.

Re: How much are you tracked? - 10/06/19 04:45 PM

If you have any sort of smartphone which is every one im aware of. The mic is always listening. I dont know if its the phone or just the apps you put on it like facebook and such. Me and the wife can talk about wanting or needing something and she can get on her phone or laptop and it will show her ads for whatever we were just talking about. If i am searching around for web for something like a pressure washer my wife will get ads on her phone. Its told on me a few times trying to sneak around and buy a new toy and the wife will ask why was i looking for whatever it was. If it has a mic in it...phone, computer, tv. It is always listening and you cant turn it off if you intend on using certain things on those devices. They say its for advertising purposes, to bring you more effective ads. But im sure there is a server room somewhere in this country that is recording and storing everything you say, or at least anything of importance. The thing is...we bought our own equipment for big brother to spy on ourselves. Im sure its technically legal too if you read the 40 page long user agreements that come with using certain products because we all check "yes i understand".

Our own personal wiretaps that we carry around everywhere nearly at all times in our pockets. The vast majority dont care or dont believe it. One day soon its gonna come back to bite us all on our rears. Just as soon as they disarm us. Its funny how it all comes back around to taking our guns, and why they never quit or leave it alone.

Also most of the features like gps tracking and location and that stuff on your phone can never actually be turned off until you remove the battery. Thats why most all new phone you cant remove the battery on them. Turning the phone off doesnt do it.

The disturbing part is when you talk about something and then start seeing ads for it 😳

It's been said that they have people watching the people that are watching me. In today's tech world I don't take anything for granted or put anything out there on my phone or computer that I don't want someone else to see. I have those adds popping up on my emails for things I have been searching online.

It's funny if I type in USPO to set up postage it takes me to non-USPO site and that's not the only time it will do that, you type in exactly what your looking for and get what they give you.

If you have a smart phone you are tracked 24/7, location, web searches, web sites.

Besides your web searches, there are people who make a living by just sending out spam to get confirmed addresses. If you click on the spam eMail you confirm your address and they can sell confirmed addresses.

Re: How much are you tracked? - 10/06/19 07:58 PM

I would never use a smart phone for any banking, that's just me. I use one hard drive and one operating system for each bank, credit card, trading platform, insurance company, etc. on a computer. It may seem like a lot of bother, but its really not. The biggest aggravation is keeping all the browsers updated, which I only do manually. If I never ever put any thing else on there but that particular thing, say bank and there is no other cookies from anyone else allowed then if any thing is coming in I know its from that bank.

As far as being tracked sometimes its easier just to put my need in and let the trackers find it for me. Ebay is great for putting it in one time and get adds and emails for days.

If you want to be almost invisible then Tails might be for you. Its not Tor but uses it some. If you are thinking of illegal activity then best forget it. Nothing goes any where with out leaving tracks.

If your using a computer that is accessed by others then you could use a live system on a flash drive which operates off your ram. When you take out the flash drive and kill the electric to the ram then there is nothing left on the computer for the next guy to see (library, office, etc.)

Might just as well accept the fact if you are on social media, there are no secrets including identities. Its just a matter of how hard they want to attach the info. to you.

My girlfriend's phone started giving her ads for police promotion study guides. I've only talked with her about it briefly and never searched anything online. Now she's constantly inundated with them. I don't like it one bit this technology is always listening

It’s not just the electronic devices that are tracking you. Every time you use your store discount card(MVP or VIC card) the store is tracking your purchases. Case in point; before we had a child(10 years ago) my wife was on birth control and had a 28 day cycle like clockwork. Eagerly month the week before her cycle was due I would get a coupon for tampons. Every time. It never failed. In fact that’s what made me think something wasn’t t right when that coupon came out and I did not have to buy tampons that month. That’s how I knew we were due for a family expansion.

Another thing. Those of you with Apple devices you can turn off the auto listening setting but a lot of time whe. Your device updates it will turn it back on. You have to go back into settings and manually turn it off each time you update. At least I have to.

Re: How much are you tracked? - 10/07/19 12:14 PM

Your phone is listening to everything you say and passing the information along to google. If you have one of those devices in your home that you just talk into, it's listening to all conversations and keeping track of everything you say. Your smartphone is tracking everywhere you go and can link it to any address. Lets say you pull into a McDonalds drive through, now it knows you like McDonalds and can sell that info to McDonalds for advertising purposes. (And burger king and Arbys, etc.)

A guy I know told me that his son who's a senior in high school was talking on the phone with a friend and asked him if he'd ever looked into a particular college. Within an hour, both of them had ads from that college on their facebook feeds. If you are connected, you can't get away from it.

Every time you swipe your card for a purchase, any time you walk into a store or public location, if you have a vehicle built in the last 10 years, XM Radio and or OnStar installed in a car, cell phones, home devices, anything built by Nest, Amazon, Google, if you have internet to your home. You can not move in an urban environment under normal social conditions in this day and age, and not be located with in minutes. Facial recognition software use is on the rise. Every time you pass a toll booth, and other random check points on highways, your plate numbers are taken in. Very few people in this country today are NOT tracked or can not be located in under 24 hours.

I have a mike attached to this machine. I often voice chat to a friend in New Zealand. We chat through a Russian run thing. " Telegram ". Said not to be associated with any of the big boys set ups.

One time, I ask is she gets a certain game show, over there. Mention how the host we get with it is great. Say his name. Down the mike.

Next day, I go into YouTube. Bang! There's a " Recommendation " for that game show. That hosts greatest moments.

Part of me died that day.

there was a story about Target , they have a targeted marketing algorythm , when you start buying related products it guesses your next product and sends you advertisements for it.

this story is probably 5 years old , 16 year old lives with her dad , she shops at target , starts getting adds for baby stuff , her dad gets mad at target for sending her maternity adds , she is only 16!

a few weeks later she has missed to many periods to not get concerned and sees the doctor , yup she was pregnant no more than 2-3 weeks when Target stated sending her baby adds.

unscented lotion and a few other personal car products generally unscented are part of the tip off in the algorithm. as the hormones start to wind up into overdrive of first pregnacy , smells become too much for many women.

Hey WIre Tap! , do you have a recipe for pancakes ?

There's more than one. They're spread out in a lot of places all across the country.

The ridiculous part is the SOB's make you sign an NDA to protect THEIR privacy.

How's that for irony?

the wife was listening to an interviewer with Edward Snowden , the wiki leaks guy , he has a cell phone but the very first thing he does is open it up , remove the microphone and disable the cameras. when he wants to talk on the phone he plugs in a set of ear buds with a mic.

are you paranoid enough?

Recently filmed a pair of bucks fighting 5-600 yards away with an I phone and a spotting scope.

When you play the video back you can clearly hear the antlers hitting each other even just the little ticks.

You absolutely couldn't hear anything from those antlers with the human ear in that situation, very shocking.
