Man that's rough cotton but sounds like you have the right attitude. When a door closes another one opens.

I’m pretty sure they can’t legally let you go for that, but I’m no lawyer. If I was in your shoes and could afford to be unemployed for a bit, I’d look at it as your schedule getting cleared for trapping season. Blessing in disguise?

Dang sorry to hear. You got ther right attitude for sure. Praying your knee heals up great.

Bob neither am I but do know they can if FMLA has ran out (if qualified for it) and believe they can if no alternative can be done. I would talk to an injury lawyer for sure.

I don't know much about the Americans with Disabilities Act, but I thought it required an employer like in your case to make reasonable accommodations for you to continue work.

Yes, Your attitude is Great

Make sure you know the Tax implications before using the profit sharing money. We got nailed by the State and Feds using my Wifes money to live on after she was laid off. Cant even use your own $ to stay afloat in this day and age.

Cotton that sucks man! But look on the bright side just in time for hunting and trapping season.

I live in VA just like Cotton and unfortunately this state is a right to hire, right to fire state. That means they don't need a reason to let you go.

Ya'll have a better disposition than I would if it was my situation.
Best of luck.

Sorry Cotton... I know how hard it can be in that situation and what it is like to deal with. Don't stop planning about your future, take time to heal and with the Good Lords help, the right path will be laid out before you. Just do what you can with ease and enjoy the free time hunt, trap and fish. I will be praying for you. Just make sure if you think you see the light at the end of the tunnel, that it isn't a train. … smile

Right attitude, however sometimes it's still rough to take when your not quite ready!!

Good advice above about checking on using any funds reserved for retirement to live on, you can get dinged on them pretty hard if your not fully retired. Medical might allow it, don't know but I would check before using them.

Some you only have a short window before you have to reinvest them as well. Or your going to get hit for that !

Companies now day's can say what ever they wish to move people out the door, some times it's not worth the fight to win the job back if all they are going to do is find another way to move you out again. Cost's are high monetarily as well as mentally, and sometimes your not able to recoup those costs for a long time.

Heal up and then if you feel the need to work there is always something out there, may take a while, but it's there, worked for me !
Good Luck !

I believe you are correct James. I’m not a lawyer but my employer will offer someone accommodation, maybe a desk or clerical job. Now if that employee were to turn down that offer.....

Cotton, that’s a huge bummer though. Keep your positive attitude.

Don't know how old you are but if they let you go because you are unable to perform your job duties then that is the definition to get disability.....

Trust me you won't be asking for a hand out . You are just wanting the money you paid in for such cases. Heck they have people drawing that never paid a penny in .....(Medicaid/welfare)

Every cases is different . BUt you may not want to drain your savings to be debt free. Lot depends on the amount of interest you are still paying. Nice to have some money to live on until God opens another door for you....
