If you plan on selling fur at the ISTA sale in Feb in Peru you should try to make it to the convention. Fur sale chairman Byron Tiede will be making presentations both days concerning the changes to the fur sale process. The changes are extensive and needed due to the increase in size of the sale.

Spent the day there today and learned a lot watching all the demo's and met some great people! Get out there tomorrow if you can. Picked up some stuff from the vendors that were set up. It was my 63rd birthday so I needed to get myself some cool stuff!

Went there today around 2:30 today and everybody was packing up. How late was it supposed to stay open?

I was there from around 10am to noon. I had a great time talking to fellow trappers and stocked up on some supplies.

The changes made in the fur sale kind of follow the way Michigan does their sale. It sound more complicated and a bit confusing , but I think it will make things flow much smoother. You can reserve your lot number ahead of time for $5 instead of first in , first out. Meaning if you don't want to be there all day you can buy an early lot number, I bought #14, so I will be the 14th lot to go up. Also you will have to bundle and tag furs by size and get a ticket for each size. Example 2xl coon bundled with twine through eye hole and tagged, 3xl coon bundled and tag, etc. One of the biggest changes is you will not get a lump check from the assoc. but rather be paid by the actual buyer of your furs. If 4 different buyers buy your lot you will get paid buy each buyer and get paid once bidding is done, no waiting around for your check. Bryon had a info sheet with all the details.

This year coyotes went from $10 to I think maybe $60 for a high , but the average for put up fur was around the $30 to $40 mark. I think I averaged $42 for mine.

I think the closing is listed as 4:00 or 5:00 on Saturday but it's usually pretty slow after about 1:00 on Saturday so a lot of dealers pack up and head home a little early. It's best to go on Friday or Saturday morning. There was a nice crowd on Saturday morning but cleared out about noon.
