Dans hip waders? Thoughts? - 07/31/19 06:43 AM

I'm looking into getting a new pair of hip waders for this upcoming season, and want to know if any of you guys on here have had luck with these specific waders.

Re: Dans hip waders? Thoughts? - 07/31/19 09:52 AM

just bought a set, but haven't used them yet.

appear to be well made.

I paid the extra for a custom fit. my only complaint (and maybe it's my fault for not being clear)...they're a little tight in the thigh. the instructions said to measure actual size, and I did so. seems I got that measurement, with little to no "lee way"...I thought that would have been accounted for when they asked for actual measurement.

no returns on custom-built.

they'll still work.

I have worn the soles out of the LaCross bottoms. Before the tops wore out.I also have inslated and Non-inslated

I like the LaCross botoms better than Muck bottoms.

junk, last pair I got took out of box, worked in them all day, came home with two wet legs, took them off, put back in box and tossed in trash! Went back to reg. rubber hip boots and burn up all summer now. No idea why no one can make those type hip boots as good as Wicks did.

I'll stand by what I said.

Two years on mine also, hard use land and water. Great product. Fit is important, drove the miles to make sure on size. glad I did, would have messed up. Mine are with the Dan's boot and brush buster chaps. Boots run bit narrow, however they are tough. Might rethink that part. I also use J C Connors belt clip on all my chaps so they need to be a bit shorter. Unfortunately sometimes you can get a bad apple in with a bag of good ones. If issue am sure they would make it right.

My boy liked his better than any other style he's tried. Out grew them, but he'll have another pair soon.

The chaps position is mainly what’s attracting me along with a good snug boot fit. I’m just tired of my feet flopping around or having no support in hip waders or them blowing out due to the tough brush I’m beating through especially during ADC work

I've owned them

They are not a wader as far as I'm concerned! They are a more of a water resistant hunting chap.

Don't buy them if you plan on being in the water for long periods of time.

Go lacrosse if your going to be in water long periods of time!

JTrapper call Stone Creek Hunting Supply they use the Wick material on lacross boots, chaps, bibs, etc. Believe they even bought some of wicks sewing machines. There in Pa.

I know guys who spend about all day in the water with them and they love them.

I wear mine with the muck boot 12 months a year. They still don't leak. What I like about them is that they don't pinch your skin at the back of your knees, and its easy to forget that you have hip boots on due to comfort and light weight. I have 4 years on my current pair.

I have had a pair for right at 4 years they have the muck bottoms absolutely waterproof I can’t believe they don’t leak got a couple of places the seems are about wore through. Don’t really care for the muck bottoms going to try something different on my next pair. I used to love my Lacross trapline waders (I still switch back and forth ) but the weight difference between the two is no comparison Dans are a lot lighter and more comfortable to wear all day long.

Re: Dans hip waders? Thoughts? - 08/01/19 02:12 PM

I had a pair of wicks and wore out 4 pair of boots before switching too a pair of Dunlop Purofoot boots, which is a pr of commercial fishing boots. Feet never got cold very comfortable, steel toes, great lugs on the soles. wicks replaced the tops 3 times on those boots before I told them no more warranty stuff because the tops were not going to outlast the boots.. still using the second pair of the froglegs with the boots after 14 years. boot are pricy at $175.00 back then.

I prefer the yoder chap always had them on a muck boot though

Re: Dans hip waders? Thoughts? - 08/03/19 12:26 AM

I have 3 pair, first pair are finally shot, as in the waterproofing is done worn out, but understand these are many many years old...….they've MORE than earned their retirement.
The 2 pair I have now, I had custom made, like WM I measured my thigh, but added 3" and they're GREAT.
These are hands down the most comfortable hip boots I've ever worn.
I know of several friends have gone to these and all are very happy the last time we've chatted about them. They too comment how comfortable they are.

The upper chap is soooo tough, both the lighter duty and the heavy duty...………..so tough that I've commented if you tear these/puncture these you'll be far more concerned about your LEG.....than your hip boots!!!
It's incredible how tough these are, sharp beaver sticks, barbed wire, multi-flower rose......and still waterproof...…..amazing!!

I use these hip boots trapping coon, mink and road trapping beaver...……….in and out of the water quickly. I'm not standing stationary for hours and hours at a time.

NOTE: one boot is the Muck style and I've found these run small and a bit on the narrow side. I had to go UP in size to get a comfortable fit. The other pair are a Lacrosse boot and I do like their sole.
Time will tell, but these are about like my Toyotas...…..they've not let me down yet and I have zero reason to look elsewhere at the moment.

I’ve worn dans since early 90’s I think. Excellent boot. I’ve done a lot of business with those boys over the years. Great people.

I'm on my first pair I have ever had and I really have liked them so far I have the muck chore cool boots because I use them at work when we have power lines down back in the swamps. They have held up great for me! I have one hole torn in my boot from running coon in the cattails over winter but the best way to patch a rubber boots is to use a tire repair patch and they are good as new! I don't think you will be disappointed with a pair

What I like about the Muck Boot lowers is that they keep debris from above from getting to my feet. Also, you can take on a little bit of water over the top and not have it get to your feet.

I have Dan's waders and use them hard, two years now and they are right as rain. Best most comfortable hip boots I have ever had.

so, this thread made me decide to shoot Dan's an email about my custom fit (tight) hip waders.

Frankly, I was just hoping they could "fix" them (at my expense). Instead, Mr. Miller said "send 'em back...we want you to be happy with them".

Gotta say that's Customer Service beyond what was advertised/expected!

I will take them up on it, as they should be able to find some tall, skinny kid with size 12 feet to put into these ones.

(I'm a tall, moderately fat guy with size 12 feet).

Hat's off to Dan's!

I think you will find those boys will customize their boots to fit your body style. If you get a leaker it’s usually where the top and the bottom are sewn together and the sealer stuff didn’t cover good enough. They will always fix that no charge. A duck hunter friend of min 6’2” 280 lbs had them customize to his size and he loves them.

Who is they? Who pays to ship them back?

Seriously, ive never owned a pair that didn't leak at the knee's where they're sewn together, why I threw the last pair brand new in the trash and went back to
just reg. rubber lacrosse hip boots like I had when I was 15 years old!

Not to hijack this thread, just wanted to say I was contacted by Dan's owner in regard to my artwork. Here is my "Night Bandit" drawing on their new catalog cover. Kevin seems to be a great person to work with and I have always had good luck with their products.

I'm with jtrap on this. I coonhunted for years wearing brush waders. Havent found a pair that didnt leak when standing in water for long periods of time.
I love the comfort for land trapping but over the knee water trapping is not good.

Re: Dans hip waders? Thoughts? - 08/12/19 04:21 AM

I've had mine for 4 years.. wear them for 4 wheeling, trapping, deer hunting, ( I'm the dog going thru the multi flower rose) and trout fishing in the spring...and just last spring i did notice a cool spot where one is leaking a bit...plan to buy another pair and have nothing bad to say about them. I liked them so much i bought one of their coats, so far its just as nice and well made.

I just bought my first pair of Dans and really like them so far. Is there any special care I need to give them to get maximum life out of them?

Re: Dans hip waders? Thoughts? - 01/20/21 10:01 PM

Have had mine for 2 years and zero trouble with them. I am in them just about everyday and I beat the heck out of them. Mine have the Dan's Frogger boots on them and I like them. Tried on several pair with different boot options and liked the Frogger boots the best. I even wear them land trapping as I can kneel and not get soaked in this clay mud we have for soil here. I beaver trapped a place that was full of locust. I killed several pair of gloves but my hip waders held up fine.
