Trap dye pot smells smokey - 07/19/19 09:31 PM

I知 getting ready to dye my traps and the steel drum I use still has the old dye in it. I致e reused dye in the past but this has a smokey chemical smell. It affected my wax last year so I bought new wax. I知 wondering if anyone cleans their dye pot out. I知 letting it dry out right now. Dumped all the old dye out but still has smokey smelling residue. I知 thinking I値l hose it out from splatter safe distance and call it good. Anyone go to more extraordinary measures? I never really thought about it before so I never talked with anyone about it.

If you have a smokey odor after dumping and cleaning from last year I doubt spraying with water now will do much. You may have something in the metal of the barrel or adhering to the metal that you need to find a way to remove. I would find something that would help disintegrate the wax that may be adhered to the side of the barrel. I am just guessing that is what is holding the odor and water is not going to remove that unless i t is hot enough to melt the wax and or chemically have material that works to remove the wax. If you have a deep barrel and you melt wax in it then you have more chances of getting that smokey odor on the metal above the wax where temps are not as hot and air does not remove the smoke.
