Starter Pistol - 11/25/18 08:17 PM

My son is getting a new pup so I was digging threw dog train toys. Dug out my little 22 cal starter pistol I have for noise maker. Have to admit it hasn't been out of the cabinet for years? Of course I dug around couldn't find any blanks for it or even an empty box. Don't recall but think it just had paper capped end blanks not crimped? Got to be short which ever because there is not much room in there.
So I go on net start looking around see what I can see blank ammo. For what they are trying to sell these goofy little pistol almost makes me think I should just sell mine. Go back to snapping 209 shot shell primers in my drilled out 38 casings.
I bought this cap gun probably 15-20 years ago and didn't give only few bucks for it maybe $20.00 tops. Any one here know much about them or collect them?? this silly thing is a Brevettata model 199 blue 22 cal. I see people trying to selling parts on e-bay for more than I'd pay for the gun.
Weird
I can say I never should have had my brother inlaw cut down the daisy 22. Threaded the barrel made a dummy launcher. Think I paid $25 for that gun and bought it just to cut.
Who knew!

Ditto here- my son got a red lab pup- he had a hard time finding the starter blanks for the 22 cal I gave him, he bought some at Bass-Pro and then they never had them in stock after that. Lion Country Supply has inserts for .38 & .44 that except 209 primers- he bought those for his .44 and the 12 ga blanks are also more economical

.22 blanks ain't all the common these days, but can be had. Some guy's will use "Hilti" style 22 RF power cartridges as blanks, not recommended tho. I use a toy cap gun with the round blank caps for puppy starting.

I got 38 casing I drilled out for 209 shot shell primers way back when I was in high school. I see a person can buy them on some dog sites so guess I was ahead of times on that. Was all I used for long time an actually shot wax plugs out my 38 with those primers. Even shot some small bird shot that way to tickle neighbor dogs hind end when came by my female.
I just thought if I could find some blanks for this little starter pistol I'd play with it. I've used the 22 power nailer loads in my dummy launcher since first had it built. I thought I had some of those loads here, but can't find them if I do? Do seem to recall they were bit long for this starter gun. Also remember that the brown color nailer load wouldn't even barely throw the dummy off the launcher. Think Purple was the big hitter.
I'll figure it all out always do.
Just that some times coming here to T-man shortens the time it takes me get my brain moving.

FWIW2U: AKC/UBGF regs require a.32 cal blank or larger for dog trials.

That don't surprise me I trained with some of them folks 20 some years or more ago... We won't be working this pup up for running any trials or such. I never have..Just need a dog that hunts and retrieves the way we want. Mostly we hate loosing birds once their hit. My dogs have always been family pets even if or not, all papered up.. That said still have had a couple that were machines in the field or marsh. Did have a guy that bought a pup from us work his dog up to being DU gun dog of the year. That was probably 15 years ago now and the pup we got from a pairing with that dog, is now 12 years old. Why the boy wants to start another pup. The lab pup the boy is picking up today is in a barn with bunch cows right now. No litter registration, no papers, on mom or dad although probably could have been. No worries to my son he just wants a dog going to be a friend that retrieves.

A dog that's a friend that retrieves, what else in life is better!
