Coyote snow camo - 01/23/18 01:16 AM

I got this nice big male in a wide open trail, previous snows laid grass down, snare was just hanging there above trail, 10th coyote here, left part if catch circle is circle from female - male double. I had a snare cut here three weeks ago, maybe he's the one that did it
Had 5-6" snow then, blowing 30-45 mph, sposed to get 15" maybe

Normally I don't catch coyote the same night a system hits, usually it's best 2 nights before weather hits, good sized male skinned out pretty clean, he had wire cut 2/3 the way through

I’ve been thinking a lot about snow the last few weeks. I was catching 2 yotes a morning then we had a skiff of snow, and I had 8 the next morning. It’s got me wondering if the snow blended the sets better then I do. OR they where just running hard that night.

Both, I think, if it's just half inch, inch they still travel, if set has lil snow covering it then anything odd to them is covered, eight coyote in a day sounds good to me, lol

Same farm, got my fifth female in this flat set, only trap I have out now.
She was so old her teeth were half wore off, how did she live so long? 2 years ago I got 12 there, last year 6, this year 11 there, 7 females, 4 males
Funny she finally stepped on the trap

Just before and day after a snow is always a good catch for me. Doesn't even have to be a major snow fall an inch will really get them moving. I prefer small snow falls big dumpings can drift snares in pretty fast

You hit the nail on the head. “Anything odd” it really bugs me that I maybe missing something. I trap 10-15 days for yotes at the first of January every year. I’ll take in the mid 40s to high 50s, but I think it should be a lot more. I’m a dirt hole guy. Since I finally joined up here I thinking I need more flat sets, but blending is blending dirt or flat to me.

I lost most my snare trap spots to deep snow, the flat set was blown free during the blizzard, she was the one that cut a snare, her neck was wetter and Pinker than rest of hide, three big scar tissue on her, bet she was 10+ years old, must of been the one coyote always left when I quit, I had just put a fresh turd on that set right before the snow

She was almost 60" to the ankle, decent sized, but skinny
No obvious arthritis, sometimes they have a big swollen joint

As bad as her cutter teeth were it's hard to believe she could still cut one, especially a 1x19, 5/64

I wasn't sure if he was any good, was glad he had good fur, bunch of burrdocks but decent fur, a week ago a pair came through the small farm, I thought I had most of them, and was hoping to get that pair, farmer lost 9-10 chickens this last fall-winter, the coyotes hit chickens at about 10-10:30 am
