.22 ammo - 10/29/13 10:15 AM

What in the heck is going on? Walmart don't have it. 2 sporting good stores I called this morning don't have it and don't know when they will.

I've got 2 boxes of .22 subsonic, and 10 stingers left.

Where are the .22's going? People stocking up on them by the tens of thousands to fight off the UN tanks?

Cabela's have it, last time there was a limit of one box, 100 count per customer. Tom

Re: .22 ammo - 10/29/13 10:19 AM

I don't think .22 is the preferred round for tanks.

Re: .22 ammo - 10/29/13 10:19 AM

Gander had some CCIs the other day,,and Wally World has had a steady supply of .22 shorts lately,,wich are fine for my ruger pistol.

Re: .22 ammo - 10/29/13 10:21 AM

Im getting low also,,I think Im down to about 3000 rounds.

Well, all Wally World here has are big caliber shells and birdshot. Not exactly good rounds for coon trapping. How much do the fur buyers dock you for a coon with a missing head?

Probably pay me $1 per coon to make up for what they have to pay Dave in advertising fees. laugh

Haha it's true. Find the places that don't get hit that hard and find out when they get in their shipment. Found a spot I started hitting every Wednesday early in the day now I got a good bit stocked up

I live a mile from cabelas. I visit a couple times a week and have had an opportunity to purchase .22's numerous times. Just don't need any. Except .22 mag. Down to about 500.
Have a few thousand .22.

However concerning the tanks.

Re: .22 ammo - 10/29/13 01:25 PM

A couple weeks ago, I too went looking for .22 rounds as I was just down to 20 shells or so. I got frustrated very quickly when I discovered they were not to be found. Seems like the End of Times folks are hoarding all sorts of ammo. When a guy can't find a lousy box of 50 .22 shells, something is wrong. I remember as a kid, you could buy as many as you could carry at all the stores, hardware, discount ...wherever. Now they are scarce. Either manufactures need to step it up or folks have to stop hoarding it to use as future currency or something! grin These are end times...end times... grin

Walmart here has then once in a while but there is a 1 box max and it dosnt matter if its 50 or 500 only one box.

They are in stock here. $30 / 500, limit 2 per customer. Let me know if you need hooked up.

Re: .22 ammo - 10/29/13 02:31 PM

what up with these end of the world preppers out there. like my self i am sure most of you guys carry a few spare rounds in your pocket, a first aid kit, and other stuff depending on where you are or what you'll be doing. kind of just in case the worst scenario happens. i mean you never know whats gonna happen out there. but really spending thousands of dollars on stuff that ain't gonna help you is pointless. a .22lr ain't gonna stop an armored personnel vehicle with a .50 cal on top.

Re: .22 ammo - 10/29/13 04:18 PM

22 shortage you ask?

I think its b/c of the .223 guys. .223 ran out b/c of the AR craze and apparently converting a .223 over to shoot .22LR is a relatively easy mod / changeover / switchout. So what I think happened was once the .223 nuts got all the .223 ammo bought up they all freaked out and started buying .22LR ammo to go get their jollies off emptying thier AR mags in the backyard... hence domino one in the shortage. domino two is guys like me that buy it now when they see it b/c they got caught with their pants down and couldn't get any for awhile so there was another boom buying it up. Its starting to trickle back now I think. Never know when the next craze will be though huh.
Posted by: Otter04

Re: .22 ammo - 10/29/13 04:51 PM

im not so sure the ammo hoarding is as real as one thinks. i think now its the maufacturing. businesses are just cutting orders.. seems like all the shops and wally worlds in the country have cut there orders. so when only a few come in thats it, so what few people buy up whats there it creates a shortage for the rest of us..i picked up three bricks over the summer at differet times and i dont buy anymore..but there still not on the shelfs anywhere on a regular basis,

Re: .22 ammo - 10/29/13 08:21 PM

I was having the same problem but have managed to put together a several hundred including about 150 Aquila,no powder, or as the box says; 'Sans Poudre'. Curious to see how they do. My advice is to try the smaller places that's where I had my luck. Everybody goes to Wally World and Sportsman's and such and wipes them out but a lot of the smaller places are not hit as hard.

To Paraphrase Donald Rumsfeld:

"You Go to War with the Ammunition You Have, Not The Ammunition You WISH you had".

If The United Nations Tanks ever do Appear, There's going to be a lot of .22 Projectiles in the Atmosphere hoping to hit The Lottery for a Blue Helmet Through a Vision Port.

Re: .22 ammo - 10/29/13 09:15 PM

Hang tight BuckNe. That might not be good enough advise for the up and coming season but last spring (I forget the source) it was projected that it would take until this fall until shelves would be re-stocked to pre-Sandy Hook levels.

Things look better at Cabels's Hamburg in terms of ammo overall but I did not see 22's last week. You just need to be there when they arrive. Primer shelves were, to my relief, stocked full but powder supplies are lacking. On the upside, 30 round AR mags were in abudance and at a good price. The situation is indeed changing in my opinion.

I guess the jist of this response is that I am seeing merchandise we want coming back but unfortunately the prices of a year ago will never return. Hang in there friend, we'll make it through another one as we did during the Clinton years.

Re: .22 ammo - 10/30/13 06:43 PM

cabelas and gander mountain is where i have heard you need to go cabelas has a limit of like 2 boxes on how many you can buy and they slowly trickle them onto the shelves throughout the day so people don't buy em out to quickly. they also don't tell people when shipments are gonna be in so there is no hoard waiting for them. when they get a shipment of em the next day the shelve for rimfire ammo is stocked with em.
gander on the other hand does have limit of like 100 rounds or one bulk buy but they don't tell you when a shipment is do either and trickle them throughout the day. same as cabelas stocked shelves in mornin if they have em my grandma got me and my cousin something like 2000 rounds (me and my cousin are kind of varmint control for the area we live in) they were they expensive high velocity cci's so be warned

Re: .22 ammo - 11/11/13 03:54 PM

getting a specific brand had been tight for 5 years , after dec 14th 2012 it got so much worse , i found a brick of cci blazer in febuary for 25 dollars and bought it , i haven't found any more since

for a while say january till june the gun store was looking very empty , they had a few boxes of match ammo , the pistol cabinet had lots of empty space in it , but then the cabinets started filling up , then the ammo shelf , 22lr is about the only thing you just can't hardly find and it is all over

when asked what is causing it i have heard some wild conspiracies but i think , it is all a numbers thing , the first time people couldn't buy it they bought an extra brick the next time they saw it so the average Joe is now sitting 1-2k and saying it isn't enough cause he don't know where the next box is coming from.

if 40 million 22 owners all bought 500 extra to keep stocked on the shelf that's 20 billion rounds figure have as many have 1k on the shelf that's 40 billion , and another 25% have 3-5k or more on the shelf thats another 30-40 billion so 80 billion rounds could easily be sitting on peoples shelves now some one told me CCI can make 4 million a day that's 20,000 days of production or 54 years spit it up among other lines and brands it still take time to make all that ammo

i think shooters and sportsmen did it to themselves
