Has the person has a swallowing evaluation? Are they having problems moving the food in their mouth or is it sticking in their throat? I am not a Speech Pathologist (I am a Registered Nurse) but they are sometimes able to really help stroke patients with their ability to swallow food and not aspirate or choke. They can teach a person different things (body positions, food consistency, etc) that can help them swallow better. They can also recommend dysphagia diets. Depending on how much damage the stroke did it may not be curable, but it often can be helped. I hope that helps a little.
