I would much rather handle about any animal by the tail . I would not suggest muskrat or white tail deer both got me really good but that's how you learn . You don't see my son jumping into the trap ring when fox trapping anymore . that fox sent him to the hospital . I caught four baby skunks by the tail one time,never got sprayed.Kept one of the skunks for two years without ever being sprayed.Was an awesome pet.Ran down a groundhog in an open field one time and caught him by the tail too.He almost got me but just couldnt quite reach me,lol.

Yes Paul he could if you let him climb up his tail . When they start just give them a little jiggle

ponyboy, if you hold an adult opossum by the last two inches of his tail, I don't believe that they can climb it. At least I've never had one do it and this year it seems I catch one every day. I did get a surprise when I held a young one by the tip of the tail so the customer could take a picture. He was sitting on top of my hand very quickly. I guess opossums are just like people. When you get old and fat you can't do pull-ups anymore!
