Just picked up a large feral cat job and am needing some serious numbers of dbl doors as they have ALL been trapped before (fixed and shots ) was wondering what you fellers thought of using the 18 inchers as I have a dz or more out in the shed.

I dont see why they wouldnt work, except cats have a long body, you might want to opt for a slightly longer model?

As stated due to their body length and agility the longer traps would certainly be the better choice, at least 30" to 36" length. Cats can be very difficult at times to get to enter a wire cage enclosure once educated without some forcing or trail setting techniques. You have your work cut out for you if doing this in numbers.

Wow, this will be interesting. I've found trap shy cats to be very hard to catch.

I would go for a longer trap if you could. Ideally, I'd want a 30" trap. With the 18" traps, it's only 9" to the trigger. That just seems a little too short of a distance to me but it might work.

How are you planning on using them? Baited or blind?

I did a cat job a while back and all I can add is that I caught three times as many in double door traps than I did in single door traps. Most of mine were 30 inchers. Had good luck with hanging bait on one of the trip wires.

I had a 18" Comstock trap set in a trail less then a few feet from a safeguard. I ended up with a cat in the safeguard and with out thinking I opened up the safeguard trap to let the cat out. That thing flew out like its tail was on fire and with 1 bound was attempting to fly through the comstock... The power doors closed and the cat was trapped again! 18" may not be the best choice for cats, but if you got em, I would not hesitate!

I have a pic of a cat in an 18" on my facebook page. I would recomend the 30" though.

I'd think the 18" traps would work well in a tight forced situation like holes under buildings or through fencing. A thought would be to cut bottom covers so the cats would not have to walk on the wire. Cardboard, carpet remnants, underlayment, etc. I also used baited plasticatch traps in conjunction with the Comstocks. Also used a lot of cat urine in and around the sets. I also used covers over all of the traps.
