So I made an off hand comment I have to back up. Went and got some PINK spray paint and painted 4 330's up to go trap a beaver or two in.
Set up a beaver house that probably holds 2-2 1/2 year old beaver in it. Will check it when we get all the traps out again...hopefully Friday.

Also some questions on how we trap. Most of the area we trap has a lot of lakes in it. Go to the lakes, find the beaver houses and set all the runs comming out of the house. We use a deep water stabalizer to make it quick and easy to stake. We have developed out own style of stabalizer to make it quciker and we do not have to use wire to tie them off.
You can see the first picture how the traps sit in the stabalizers, those traps are ready to be set, just need to take the safeties off.
A friend custom made mstabalizers to my liking and they work...well too well! Most stabalizers do not let you put the dog on the bottom beacue there is not enough room for it to fire on a 10" trap. So I had extra space put under the trap. The keeps the dog/triggers on the bottom so there is less fur damage. The beaver are also swimming closer to the bottom, so it takes less movement of the trigger to fire.

On top, instead of the tiny opening I had him weld D rings, so I could put a snap link there.

Entension cable is hooked onto the same snap link, and staked to a sturdy stick that is not going anywhere.

A bunch of people were asking why I liked a lighter colored trap. When trapping this way, you can see your trap underwater and know weather or not it is fired by just a glance, instead of pulling the whole works up.

There are two main reasons we trap this way.
#1 is the area we trap has a lot of competition. We can get in and out of an area in 2 checks and take most of the beaver in a colony. There is no way to backset this, as the beaver will have to come out of the hut before they work anyone elses sets. We can also carry in just a few traps, and take the majoriy of the beaver instead of having many sets.
#2 We live in Minnesota. Ice forms whenever it wants. These sets will work when there is no ice, or 3' of ice.
If you set enough of these you can do the following.
