Ever run into this before? I caught a coyote in a coon cuff this week. He had the mange pretty bad and was in sad shape. I was surprised that he could get his paw into the small hole on the coon cuff, but he did and he was held very solidly. Anyone ever catch other non target critters in a coon specific trap? I use them mostly to avoid the house cats, but now I'm a little concerned. I've got a picture but haven't figured how to upload it yet.

I just caught a grinner in one today.

have caught; coon, possum,feral cat,skunk, and mice in grizz getters.

I hope people will realize that dog proof traps are NOT cat proof, I have caught feral cats in Lil grizz and Yancy's dp traps.

dang i can't beleive that. But it shows what that trap can do.

I bought my first coon cuffs this year and realized that it would be easy to catch non target because the trigger is not pull type and the hole is too big. I bought some big washers and narrowed my hole down. I simply used some epoxy and placed washer on the top of cuff hole. The washers are 1 1/4 instead of the big 2 inch hole.
While many non targets would attempt to dig up bait there is always chance that they will put foot in hole.
Something else to consdier, many non targets use their toungue to lick up food and it is possible to catch critter in many of the dog proofs his way. This seems to be rare occasion, but non targets are cuaght that way.

Thats why I don`t like the coon cuff for a DP trap. Its a push trigger, not a pull. Anything that can get there foot in the hole and push down can get caught. Including dogs.

The only saving grace is that there was very little damage to the foot. If a dog was caught it could be released pretty much unharmed.

Maybe in your part of the state.
I have never seen one that bad here in Central NY. Most of them are furred up pretty nice.
The Fox on the other hand are pretty mangy.
I don't care what ya caught it in, I am just glad it is out of circulation, and out of its missery.

This year is the first year I've seen mange in this area.

My buddy Caught a house cat in an egg trap not a cuff but id say its possible
