I am way to busy and getting busier but I promised.

We will be having a Biggest Weasel Contest with 2 Divisions, Youth and Adult.

I am interested in having fun this Winter as we talk smack about who will win.
It seems fitting to have a small entry fee that will be donated to the Discretionary Fund on this Forum. I asked the Boss permission , and his exact words were go for it !

At this time the winner in each Division will receive -
- Official Victor Weasel trap donated by myself
- Winter Range, weasel call lure, donated by Christian from Moose River
lures
- 3 of my favorite Basswood Weasel stretchers, with belly boards,
for those slight of build
- Moundmasters Beaver lure , donated by Bogmaster , aka Tom Olson
- 3 Victor profesional model (Yellow Pan) Rat Traps, Donated by JerryD

if I manage to get some more donations they will be added to the prize pool.

Proceeds are for a good cause !!!

Entrance donation is $4 for the adults

Entrance donation is $1 for those under 16

In order to participate I need you donation by November 28th.

Mail donation to

Weasel Contest
3361 462nd St.
Isle , MN 56342

Include your user name on this Forum and I will get you a confirmation number in a PM as well as posted on the Official thread. Again all funds will be turned over to Ms Cat for the Discretionary Fund. I will get her out a money order after the deadline.

I guarentee it will be fun ! If some others would like to sweeten the prize pool it would be great.

Tom Olson will be the Official Judge. He will need your largest Short- tail Weasel pelt of the year. It will be judged on both length and width as not everybody will be putting them up on the same Boards. In the Event of a tie ( I expect it ) Tom will pick the winner on the quality of the handling. Put your best foot forward for bragging rights !!

The pelts will be sold at NAFA with Paul Dobbins getting the credit if we can score a TOP LOT Hat. Again the proceeds from the sale of the pelts will be donated to the Forum.

If I missed anything or you have concerns let me know. Should be a heck of a fun event for those of us blessed enough to be Weasel Trappers. For those of you in the South maybe you can have an ugly Nutria Contest or something !!

I have a Sponsor for 6 kids who will make an honest effort at catching and putting up a quality Weasel.

This is for those that will try hard to make several catches and willing to put in the effort.

There is tons of good information in the Land Trapping Archives on a post titled" The Weasel Thread".
If you have snow on the ground for most of the winter you most likely have some Weasels. Cattails and tall brushy ditches are good habitat.
All the information is available here on the Forum. There are plenty that will help you on the Forum, both in catching and pelting the animal. Prize package keep getting better !

If you will make the effort to win send me a PM and we will discuss it further.

Thanks for the high praise, 2poor. I don't intend to let you down!

I got some stretchers from Maddog today, and I just got done putting my two rats up. One of them had a big tail so I will enter him in the Muskrat tail Contest. You MI people are gonna have to work overtime! LOL

I have you down Bandit Buster.

Start scouting culverts trying to find dry ones that connect cattails or grassy ditches. Super locations !

Hey 2poor, yesterday I had two weasels. One was a tiny little one, large enough to sell but very little. That was my first weasel killed in a rat trap. Then I caught a big old weasel, probably 3 times larger than the first, my first ever weasel alive in a 1 1/2.

A big longtail will have a body length of 15"-16" and a tail 8"-12" long for an entire length nearly 28".

Sounds like you caught a big Buck shortail and are moving out in front of Rob906 !! Go Minnesota !!!!!!!!!!!
