I'm sure it's not like that but here's what happened...

A week ago saturday I set some traps for an animal that's been up-rooting a flower garden. I first thought skunk. I trapped a raccoon for the very same lady a little over a year ago in the same yard. On this job though, I have no tracks or scat or hair to go by. basically just animal "habits" as I have best tried to learn.

So I catch 2 possums near the scene of the diggings. When I went to check things out yesterday she was ready to pay me on the spot. I guess the gardner told her the culprit was a possum. Good enough for her.

I told her I would be back out wednesday to collect the traps and she could pay me then if she was satisfied.

Anyone ever have this happen?

Opossums cause more damage to flower beds around here than they do to lawns. Armadillos and raccoons usually cause more damage to lawns. We have very few skunks in the local area. Are you using drift fences?

No on the drift fencing. I'll wake up someday and buy some material.

Could the little divots on the lawn possibly be from tree squirrels?

Yes!!!! Many folks around here often mistake squirrel digging for armadillo or raccoon damage. Squirrel digging, around here, is usually shallow (doesn't move dirt around) and is rounded at the bottom. Armadillo damage and raccoon damage moves a lot of dirt. Opossum damage, in flower beds, usually involves just moving the mulch (pine needles or tree bark) around; not digging.

HA! Found out about that sort of squirrel damage long before I ever got into trapping. They are tearing up my grandfolks lawn. I always knew I know SOMETHING!!!

I've got squirrels digging all over my lawn, and they ate most of the fruit out of my trees. Plums, apples, and pears. Told the wife I was going to thin them out, and she said I couldn't do it because she likes the squirrels more than she likes the fruit. I told her, "That's fine. Maybe they'll populate enough that the neighbors will hire me to get rid of them in THEIR yards." Seems I have my own potential income generation plot going here.
