I got this trick from Clint Locklear.

Take a piece of yarn about 8" long. Tie it to the top of your radio intenna on your truck. Now fray the last inch or so of it. When you pull up to a set location, you just look up at the yarn and it will tell you what way the wind is blowing before you even get out of the truck! Really speeds up decision making!
Thanks Clint.

Not too big. Just enough to be able to squirt and smash the bacon grease in it. Smear set works too.

Squirrel tails are good but yarn moves at the slightest breeze as it is not nearly as heavy!

When trapping high competition areas where working out of your truck , keep a garden rake with you. Blend you circles back in between catches and definitely after your done will make em work harder to figure out your game.

when crappie fishing,if the fishing is slow, when you catch one ,after takeing him off your hook, put another hook in his mouth. But have a long piece of fishing line attached to this hook.Blow up a small balloon and tie it to the other end of the line, then let the fish go.He will swim back to the school, and you will know where they are by watching the balloon. Then, just keep casting into the school. You can retrieve the fish with the balloon on him when your done !

How often do you forget your trapping/fishing/hunting permit? Or just leave it in the truck. Well I’m jumping from my truck to dads truck well sometimes I forget to take the permit with me. Some times I don’t take it in case I’m trapping a creek or ponds, I don’t want to fall in and get it wet. I found a great solution to keeping my permit high and dry. I went to Wal-Mart and bought a fishing permit holder plastic and clear with a safety pin. Flipped over my trusty hat I take everywhere pulled down the liner and pinned the permit holder under the flap, bam problem fixed. You can’t even tell its there with the hat on. I wear it everyday and, no one notices it there. Now I’ve found myself stick everything it there, lol.

I carry my bottles of urine with me in the truck. But when i get ready to get out and make sets i use a 10ml oral dose syringe with the end cap. Just fill em up, cap em, and throw em in your pocket. Refill as needed! Its alot lighter than carrying a spray bottle and you can drop a few drops and be done with it. I put masking tape on mine and write what kind of urine it is so i dont get mixed up.

Want some really good and cheap bait, go to your grocery store. Ask the manager at the meat counter if he would save you a couple of out of out dated fish filet Especailly Salomn and or trout. Really good baits for nothing, or next to nothing. Just depends on what kind of beer he likes.

At WAL-MART in the knitting section they have some mesh plastic screens for knitting...They cut easy and are a great pan cover...Some of them are about the same thickness of the end of a Fly Swatter...They come in all different colors...

It is hard to get the metal screens to flatten out for re-use,and they can be hard to find due to their color...

Heavier/Longer chains on traps for muskrats/mink make better drowning sets. Some of my favorite traps for rats and mink are 1&1/2 Victor coils w/ pinch pans and HEAVY chains 36"-42" long. Seldom have rats ring off or have a rat or mink that isn't drowned.

An extra swivel or two added to any trap chain never hurts(Even on bodygrippers used for dry sets).

Carefully bending the standard triggers, on 110s & 120s, into a circular or oval shape, makes for an "inviting" hole or tunnel. For me, at least,it results in more neck catches on mink and many less hip catches.

I cut up old burlap sacks, the real kind, into 8x8" squares. I use this when skinning, as it helps me get a grip on greasy pelts when skinning! When they get too saturated, I throw them into the wood stove and the fat burns like oil in a lamp! Really puts out the heat!

You can get Single Jack Link chain and take it apart and use the single links for J hook break aways. Come in differnt sizes for differnt strengths. Last I got was 26 cents a foot. It was the # 16 and has 13 links to a foot. 2 cent J hooks for my skunk and mink snares. Break away on the # 16 is about 45lbs.
