Yes, old and new. There are a lot of regional lure makers that are never known out of their county or state.

Yes along with O.L. Butcher, Walter Arnold, John Ehn, Sheldon Colvin and about 100 or more others have come and gone over the years.

Even in Canada...LoL
I'm on the list.
There's a few more here in Canada I can think of but they are not well known in Eastern Canada and in the US I believe.

Cool thread

1st River Rat - 19&20 are two different makers.

Johnathan & Asa - Thanks, I forgot about those you noted. (and many more)

Stef - Just because you're North of the border makes no difference! grin

Asa, Thank you for that nod and clarification to amplify my antique "memory." I remembered that one, too.

K-zoo,

Give up now. I have what I believe to be the most complete list ever put together and I don't say that sarcastically. Been working on it ten years and have contacted many trappers since. My last count was around 175 lure makers...and most were marketed. There were a few that made them and gave them away, but most of the list marketed them. My list is not even complete, but it's been a fun road to travel.

I will say that quite a few came out of New York and Pennsylvania. Ohio hasn't done too bad either.

Does anyone have Don Hunter from OH on their list. I bought fox lure from him years and years ago and that stuff was extremely effective down a hole.

Burbank lure. I think he was the first to sell lure.

There have been hundreds come and gone since I was a kid. Just can't recall all of the names right now. There was Gene something the Old Bounty Trapper, The Minnesota State Predator controller, one of the founders of the PA TA, etc, etc. One of these days I'll dig out some old FFG mags from the 40's and refresh my memory. Either that or Jack Turner can give us those 175 names, LOL. Oh 'ya, Donald Niemic Lures, Manistee, MI! I give Jack a bottle or two of Niemic lures to go with his collection. Oh 'ya, forgot good 'ol Roy "Finn" Syrjamaki who sold lures for years. Ace

K-zoo,

Somewhere around 100 different. Finances have limited my collection from being larger. Haven't purchased any or been able to pay for shipping costs for about a year. There have been 5 or 6 that frequent this site that have been very generous and donated to my collection to which I am forever grateful. I'll probably never sell the collection, but down the road pass it on to a well-known trusted trapper or donate it to a trapping museum.

Asa-

Hey pal, are ya trying to give me carpel tunnel syndrome? To type that many out would kill me. LOL

I will say that all you folks are doing one heckuva job. If someone would write these all down you'd be getting in the ballpark. One of the biggest issues is when someone starts a lure business and then it's sold 2-3 times.

I will say that I have been able to add two or three luremakers to my list. Thanks. Good post.

Yes folks, Asa was one that has helped me out as well as Paul Dobbins and Nancy (WissMiss). I have appreciated all the input (info) as well as donations.

Speaking of Paul Grimshaw, Paul has bought a lot of lures wholesale from me over the years and has a sizable catalog so he must have a pretty good clientele of trappers. I have wondered from time to time why I have never in 10 years read anything good, bad or otherwise about Paul. Anyone have any input on Paul Grimshaw??? Ace

i have done business with Paul off and on for a number of years. i have always found him to be one of the most honest people i have ever dealt with. he still does business the old fashioned way. i think his son has joined him a few yr back also.

Thanks Only Live Once, Leonard Pavek was the one I was trying to think of that advertised that he was a Minnesota State predator Controller. And to think we all forgot about'ol Laverne "Swede" Israelson!

First lure I ever bought was LaVerne's.

I bought a couple bottles of LaVerne Israelson's lures many years ago after reading his full page ads in Fur-Fish-Game month after month. He was based out of Thief River Falls, Minnesota (that should have tipped me off and sent up a red flag, right there). His business was known as Northwoods Trapline Supplies. The 1-1/4 ounce plastic squeeze bottles the lures came in were worth more than the contents. I tell you, the "lure" consisted of a bottle of the runny lime green-colored radiator antifreeze, with a hint of some sort of feint tincture of a lure smell to it. Do I have to tell you that I never caught anything on it and I never reordered from him again?

Never heard of Roy "Finn" Syrjamaki. What state was he from?

Ingvalsone,

There were two "Call Of the Wild Lures". One was made by Jerry Thomas of Ketchikan, AK. Maybe it was he that made the raccoon bait. Don't know for sure.
