I've Rubber Coated Some Of Mine Before Then Dyed Them It still Hasn't Come Off & No Rust. Didn't Affect the Catches Either (That I Can Tell) Still Caught Predaters On Them.
As Far as Rustolum Never Tried it. But Worth A Shot In My Book.

im pretty sure it would be ok for water traps but, i believe someone (Daniel E. i think) said that they sometimes use fish oil in the paint mix and that you can smell it..i dont know if its true but i dont use it so i wouldnt know...

It's called the "Keith French Method"...and I use it on all my bodygrip traps.

Just think about really....when a NC year round ADC beaver trapper like Buzzard tells you it will last multiple seasons...you might wanna try it!

I SWORE by speed dip before trying it....and still think speed dip is decent! It DOES NOT preserve traps like a good coat of oil based paint though.

Rustoleum's Rusty Metal Primer contains fish oil.

Here it is from Rustoleum Company:

"Rusty Metal Primer
The original and the best, based on Rust-Oleum founder Captain Robert Fergusson's discovery of raw fish oil's ability to stop rust and prevent corrosion on metal ship decks. Unique fish-oil-based formula penetrates rust to bare metal, to drive out corrosive air and moisture other primers leave behind. Bonds tightly to rust to form a surface that topcoats can adhere to."

I've done conibear traps this way and I use mine on the coast of NC, in buckets, not actually in salt water. Works for me.
I thin the paint and just dip the traps and hang them in trees to dry.

My experience with Rustoleum, or any spray paint, is that it doesn't last like the dips do. But, I haven't tried the Rusty Metal paint though. It may wear better.

Goldy,

I'm not talking about spray paint.

My experiences with spray paint are they same as yours....not mention it's a mess, wastefull, and takes darn near forever to get a good coat.

I believe that they recommend thinning it with acetone.

My 330's lasted two years in good shape with rustoleum. I was happy. (Used to be a speed dip dipper).

Sorry Daniel, thought Rusty Metal Primer was a spray paint.
