It was, I think, Big Al from New York who defined the first week of August as " H " week.... because of all the bat calls you get at all hours of the night, when the young bats are beginning to leave the roost for the first time. You guys getting a good percentage of bat calls yet? (Got 3 in the last 2 days...) ;\)

They're getting batty in Cincinnati...Always did most biggest jobs down there....Something about those old river towns.

Time to make some Real $$$ \:\)

Are these just calls for single bats in the house?

Mine were for whole colonies... but I do get the calls for single bats too....sometimes an indication of a colony within the home.

It has been a fun 2 week's. I took a couple early last night, before 11 pm. and then tried to get some rest. We got 3 more call's in the next couple hours, and sent them to a friendly competitor, that kept him running till daylight.
In all the year's we have been doing bat work, very rarely did I come across anything but Little Brown's. These are the single bat call's in homes at night. This year, out of over 30 call's that I took, every bat has been a Big Brown. We started getting call's 2 weeks ago, in the middle of July, which has never happened before. We may have gotten a call or two the last week in July, but they were always Little Browns. We are curious what August will be like, with the White Nose Syndrome going through the Little Brown populations. Any day now,in a normal year, the pup's would be starting to come into the picture as they leave the roost's. It will be interesting to see what happen's.

Cany anyone offer pricing advice on the bats? Do you charge more for night calls and for colony exclusions?

an exclusion all depends on the house....how high...do you need a lift, how much sealing...there is not a one price fits all. you should look at the house and price it according to the number of hours it will take, two three visits and the guarantee

an emergency call is just that an emergency call. I am NOT getting out of bed at 11 or 12 at night for $150 lets just say that ...

Not often, most folks I run into want the smell and staining gone more than they want the bats gone. LOL Besides my customers rarely get the option as my prices usually include the cleanout as a toal package price.

LT,

Why don't you just post the photos, yourself?
Posting someone else's photos, isn't any harder than posting your own. ;\)

Here's the thread...

And here's the photos;

Yes Buck..........The house is netted,,,or was in the process..... This allows the bats to leave and you to "reserve" the job, for completion at a later date.......(Expensive ... but factored out it is a good investment)......

So you net the whole house, leave one opening, put an excluder on it, and then come back and do the sealing and repair work the next week or so?

Lady called yesterday. She runs a small swanky restaurant from an older home. She found two bats inside the service area and had found a few others recently. The Health Department pulled her license. So she is closed for a while. Do you think that she may have a bat colony in the building? wink

She rents the premises, so I think there is more to to the story than I have been told.

I still have about 15 on back order. I guess that puts her in position #16. That shouldn't be too much of a problem. The building needs a whole heap of repairs before I will even make a proposal. It has been a very busy bat season here too!

Juvi bat in the house call last night. No sign of a colony, and they left a window open in the sons room with no screen. In this town nobody can pay anything, so I left a card with the local humane society. Sometimes I get 20 bucks a run, sometimes a home made pie.

We have alot of bats get in the home at night. central air, bat gets in 1am around about. the first statment from the customer is it must of came in a door or window!

Just because a home does not have a bunch of bats does not mean it is not accessable.

I tell the folks no colony but your house is still accessable.
which means if they do not want it to happen again they must do a bat proofing. if they do not care about the bat waking them up in the middle of the night then don't worry about it.

I am averaging 4 bat inspections a day with 95% sales I am booked into the 3nd week of sept right now. Guys sell the accessable jobs the same as a colony, just tell them unless the home is proofed it May happen again. you have to sell.

If the bat came in a window because the glass was half mast or a window ca was loose then tell them how to fix it duck tape around the ac unit and tape the top of the anchor window or make sure the storm windows are locked with fram to fram but if the hone has central air windows closed and no fire place then it came in a hole and got lost, adropping or 2 in the attic will comfirm it. sell the job at the same cost as a colony.

Few people in my town could affoard more than 20 bucks. I more or less charge that because i dont want to burn all my diesel picking up baby birds and rabbits (because its free)
All my real advertising is 75 miles away or more, where the money is.
