Wednesday, July 2, 2008, Utah, Suspicious Phone Calls

Two Utah mink farmers received phone calls just before 6 a.m. from a
male with either a Spanish or Danish accent. The caller, who
introduces himself as "Dave from Denmark," stated he wanted to buy
pelts. His questions included: Are you still in business? Number of
animal raised, pelts produced? In both instances, he succeeded in
getting the farmers' email addresses.

One farm has Caller ID which revealed one call came from 801-228-0418,
LLM Services. When dialed, the number is disconnected. It tracks back
to a rolling bank of phone numbers owned by telemarketers so the
original call could have been placed virtually anywhere.

It is possible that animal extremists are updating The Final Nail list
(http://www.finalnail.com/fur.htm) using phone banks set up for the
election year.

FCUSA is working with law enforcement so anyone receiving such a call
should contact us with additional information. Before giving out
information on the phone, farmers should ask how the caller got his
number and for full contact details from the caller. Tell him someone
will call him back. You are welcome to give out the FCUSA contact info
and ask him to send his information to us. Any legitimate caller
should be happy to do so.

Please double check your security as there are many animal
rights-related events scheduled for the upcoming weeks and activists
will be one the road. Contact FCUSA for a calendar of such events and
report anything suspicious to local law enforcement, the FBI and the
FCUSA office.
