Sometime last year I recall catching wind about, what I assumed to be a relatively new product from Russ Carmen called "Urine Spike." I haven't heard anyone talk about it since, unless I missed that movie somehow.

It is billed as an additive to inoculate red fox urine with. I think it was 2 oz. of it to half a gallon of urine? The claim was that it made a stand alone attractant - no lure or bait needed with it at a set. Suppose to be "deadly" on both fox and coyote.

Are there any users of the product who have had a chance to evaluate its advertising promises?

Just curious - sounds like an interesting way to transform urine into a "lure" (of equal opportunity) to match that of a regular gland type or call lure at a far cheaper cost.

Testimonials, reviews and endorsements welcomed.

Jonathan

by adding to urine essentially you're making your own Carmans "Pro Mix" ??? assumeing it's gland based?

haven't used the "urine spike" but I'll give his "Pro Mix" two thumbs up

Thanks for the clarification. I have mixed a lot of stuff together, too, but wasn't quite sure what Russ was up to with that offering.

Since most of my gland lures already have some urine in them, plus the fact that I have never added anything to urine - I wasn't quite sure what this was all about. Never really gave it much thought as possibly only being a "solution by dilution."

I am still in training, Coach, and maybe a tiny, tiny bit still vulnerable to advertising claims, especially from a well know trapper. Doesn't matter, I get it now.

All of the same group of glands, musk and ingredients added to a bait to increase its attraction and enhance it as a lure can be added instead to a urine base. The food/bait based lures excel at sets with holes or hollows and the urine based formulas excel at post and blind scent sets. One might want to add matrix/passion ingredients to the urine for usage at and near breeding season. Ace

I used Urine Spike last year and was very impressed with the results. Mainly used it on the backer at dirtholes, scent posts, and flat sets. Caught reds, greys, and yote's. It's very strong liquid gland. Will be using it for sure this year. Never tried it alone, but probably should have.

The best additive is propolene glycol? It keeps the odor closer to the ground so they smell it farther and easier.T.20

How does it do that ? By what mechanism does Propolene glycol keep the odor closer to the ground ?

Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

From what I understand, if I have the right ingredient in mind, the glycol is thicker and keeps the odor closer to the ground. I don't know, I'm not a chemist. T.20
