Looking for a good cheap bait? Bacon grease or pork cracklins. Simple as that.

Chunked beaver meat, ground hog, etc. works well.

I prefer using some time of meat but also I either put grey fox urine around it or some time of lure. Leggetts works good

Get Cameron2's book/DVD, he gives some good lure and bait recipes, great info to boot.

I filled a quart jar with eggs and beat them up real good; then I let them ferment for about a month. I just dug a hole last week and poured a little in. Then I set my game trail camera up on it and left it for about 3 nights. I had a bunch of pictures of grey fox when I checked it yesterday. I've never tried the fermented eggs before on the trapline...I was just experimenting. I also had picturs of coons and one opossum. I've got three other cameras that I set up on mock sets with the fermented eggs yesterday. I'm planning on checking them sometime tomorrow and I'll post some of the pictures, if I have any.

Crowkiller is on the money. That's about all I had when I was young and learning from my GrandDad. Cracklins are very underrated by a lot of trappers.
My next favorite is ground tainted venison. You could make two batches, and try a good bait solution in one.
Later,
45/70,

Bill, did you ever mix cracklins, cheese and parched peanuts together for grey fox bait? A old man I trapped some with a long time ago used that and it was killer on the greys.

I always liked meat type baits better cause bobcats never seemed interested in the cracklins and I didn't want to miss them at my fox sets.

Try tainted bobcat with R.K's or Art's bait solution. both worked great for me this year.

Jackie,
I have used something very much like that.
I have met folks who insisted that raw peanuts were the best, but I don't think so.
Parched peanuts have an odor that IMEx has a stronger draw than do the raw ones.
What kind of cheese do you use? I have used some limburger occasionally -- not so much mixed in as added too.
Later,
Bill,

Have any of you used a "sweet" essential oil ingredient with any of the bait formulations you have used, or experimented with?

Jonathan

I used square chunks of chedar cheese the one time i tried the mix. Worked real well and like a dummy I never used it again, lol. Meant to experiment with it on coyotes a time or two over the years but never did.
