Not wanting to hijack the other thread on cost of urines I made this one.

I see this urine is good, that one is bad, most are sewage, etc.

Now rumor has it there will be a shortage of the 'good' stuff.

If all of this is true, what effect is this going to have on the lure industry? Alot of lures have a certain amount of urine in them.

Thought Paul just added his own urine as the special ingredient lol

Just might mean every coyote you catch you will have to save the urine, That way you know what you got.

The most direct effect will be cost of good urine, lures and availability of the highest octane materials.Law changes in some states with respects to holding animals, cost of maintaining a good operation and feed costs are the results of decreased production and just plain out of business for others.

As stated some lures do contain urine and I would like to think that all formulators would use the best ingredients that are available. With this trend the best urines will certainly create a potentially better product vs using run of the mill urine. The resultant odor in a batch of lure is quite recognizable when a top shelf urine or poor grade urine is used.I know I can smell and identify the difference. I wonder if an animal can? I think we all know the answer to that question.

There are cost increases across the board with all ingredients and less and less availability of some raw materials. There arent as many trappers cutting glands as there use to be.And some animals arent in good numbers as they use to be either such as muskrats. The younger generation doesnt want bothered or doesnt know how to an extent or the Mrs. wont let it go on etc.Once the old timers have run their course things will get even more difficult to find materials in adequate amounts.

Eventually it will be total synthethic or some type of replacement production products if the trend continues. And alot of this is, and has been going on now for several years.

Bob I think alot of trappers would probably collect glands if they knew how. Might need some demo's on the convention circuit showing how this is done?

Not real sure why anyone would want coyote urine to begin with though, lol. Red fox urine was always my favorite at a land set no matter the specie I was targeting.

same here jackie (xcept for bobcats and bobcat urine), i've got a 1/2 gallon of yote urine that i've had for three years now, still over 3/4 full i think.

not only do some not know how to collect the glands but how to store them and how to market or sale them. thats like me, i can take out most glands, but i wouldn't know who to sale to or how to go about it.

i collect the urine from the bobcats i catch; and keep the anal gland and urine bladder, but they are in a jar in the freezer.

Well since ADC has been nice enough to put up videos clips of skinning and other stuff maybe we should talk him into doing some gland segments for differnt critters as for collecting, storing and marketing

How do you collect the urine from trapped animals? Is it like skunk eccens (sp)? Just draw it out of the bladder with a syring, or what?

On bobcats you cut them open after skinning and get the bladder out.

Fox/coyotes some use to keep them alive in pens with catch troughs under them to catch the urine. Much more involved in it than that, but you get the idea.

I agree with J....if I knew how to take out and extract glands from start to finish, and how to store them, I would probably try it.

As you know last winter different states shut down a lot of the dog running pens. Some of the major collectors of quailty urine may not even be in buisnes anymore or about to give up as urine collection is a side line to catching animals for the pens. Quality meat fed urine is higher then last year and unless the pens start up again it will keep going up. Ranch ceral fed stuff is still pretty cheap but you get what you pay for. IMHO
