Just curious. All you guys that trap beaver on the river what sets make up the majority of your line?? I was talking to a buddy of mine that beaver traps on rivers and his equipment and techniques were a lot different than my own. I know the obvious reason being terrain but Im curious, what works for you on the river??

snares and conibear next year I am going to use leg holds a bit more . built a 330 that is 28 wide to set in a spring that I saw them coming to. trapping mink and weasels. so I made it bigger to go across the opening seems that they are comming into it in a wide area looks like it will fit good put it in tonight . was kind of cold out my mustache stuck to my gotie? kind of chilly was going to pull some traps and did but reset more than I pulled critters not moving much about like two weeks ago.
trapping is fun chipping ice is not!

On rivers you can put in bottom edge sets even with ice and expect to catch local or traveling bvr , also otter. This system also works for muskrat and mink.... Go get em!

I trap all creeks for the most part. That will change next year. My buddy uses mostly 330's on the river and mostly slide sets. He just slicks up a slide, slaps a little lure in it and on to the next one. He does set "en mass though. If theres a slide it probably has a trap in it,LOL. Works well for him to. Me Im a castor mound, crossover kind of guy. When I trap a colony I set all the crossovers and then slap in three or four castor mounds. That will usually wipe them out in one or two nights.

Bait sets with corn on the cob at the mouth of the creek that dumps into the river. This works in "grain" country.....lot of the time the beavers feed on corn and grass up the smaller cricks/ ditches....Works around here best early when all the beaver are still coming in from everywere to feed in the fields and the field are picked....Later in the year it slows down....but there ALWAYS looking for an easy meal..... takes more eye appeal...and some Dobbins products Sometime if I am scouting a river during the season, and if I don't see much sign...... I will build mound here and there and everywere that looks good along the river.. ....without setting trap.......I will come back later and set traps at all the mounds that were found by the river beavers..

I tried 330s on fake slides with castor before freeze-up and caught a few. Once the ice breaks up and beavers start cruising Im going to hit 'em again. Simple set, looks amaturish but works!

I set on fresh sign using the standard methods and traps. My favorite is the castor mound in combination with a snare, 330, or foothold as the situation calls for.

All those are good methods I use but what about the Baited Y stick? Or the baited pocket? Those work well, I especially like the baited pocket in conjunction with some Castor.
There is nothing so empty as a pool without a trout, particularly when the guilt is yours.
