Shellfish essence was developed years ago as a synthetic odor trying to replicate the odor of somewhat tainted shellfish creatures in simple terms.

Shellfish essence is in fact an artificial odor that is available and sold in its true form if you can determine who has the real Mc coy. This material is also available and sold as shellfish oil which is a cut version of true shellfish essence.

The original shellfish essence is then cut or mixed with different types of solubles acting as a carrier. Vegetable oil being one of those low grade elements that is used by some for that purpose.Other cutting oils make a better choice for a soluble mix for shellfish oil because some oils arent as compatable with some essences as they are with others.

I bought a qt from Cumberlands and I decided that I was going to store it in a break resistant container outside because if it broke in the garage, I would have to burn it down.

Bob Jameson - "Shellfish essence is in fact an artificial odor that is available and sold in its true form if you can determine who has the real Mc coy."

Usually you can tell by the price. If you find it for a couple dollars an ounce, it's probably cut. I recently purchased a 25 pound container of it and it was pretty danged expensive. I won't cut mine though, which is why my shellfish oil price is a bit on the high side.

Maybe that is why some people seem to think you need so much of it in your fish oil.

The stuff I bought, if you sniff it, you taste it for hours.

That's good to know Paul. The jar I bought in December, not yours, was frozen solid and broke the bottle. Saw fish oil and shellfish oil gell up before but never freeze solid like water.
