Three questions: 1.When setting snares on beaver trails, how high off the ground should the bottom of the snare be? 2. If there are no large trees to attach to, are POGO stakes good for anchoring the snare (assuming the ground is solid)? and 3. I find many snares "bumped" off of the support wire. Does this mean I'm positioning them too deep in the water, too shallow, or is this just one of the common frustrations that requires patience?

I don't get to snare as many as I'd like due to low populations but here's how I would answer your questions...

1. 2" and place then in the steepest part of the trail
2. I use a single 24" rebar stake, pogos would work fine IMO.
3. Many things can cause it. The wide varity of sizes of beavers bieng at the top of the list. Rats, snares set too sensitive, too big or small of loops, flimsy support wire, ect.. that list goes on forever.

Here's a drawing I did a while back on how I do it...

Results...

Hope that helps!

Thanks! I guess I've been setting them too high.
