All depends on your situations. Based on previous "surveys" it seems most in the North use plywood, and most in the south go with hoops.

I prefer boards with 2 1/2" finishing nails.

Hoops. Get them tight like a tambourine, get a good sharp knife, and flesh them right on the hoops.

I prefer hoops because they take less space to store and the hide dries faster.

I tried the hoops this winter and the problems i had with them was with a kit they woudn't always go small enough and they don't go big enough for ones 60lb and up. They warp all over and don't get the perfect ovel. The hog hooks are very hard to get in the tail area. They do store easier though. To each his own i'll use plywood from now on.

Most people do 9/16" staples out of an electric staple gun. There are a few that run staples out of a air stapler, but those are usualy at the commercial levels.

They staple them the same as you would nail, but try to have the staples sticking out some, so they can be pulled out easier. Quicker to put them on the boards, but in my experience way to long to get them off the boards. Usualy involves a flathead screwdriver for each staple, or a needle nose pliers.

I have seen demos by one of the canadian auction outfits where they used staples and an electric staple gun to staple the hide on the boards, then used a scotch fur comb to pull the staples out. they could pull them all out in a matter of seconds. All I can say is try it, see if you like it.

I prefer plywood. Hay Prune, when you use those hoops are your beaver round or oval?

Boards all the way. I can do two beaver on one board. It would be tough to do that on a hoop. So I tink I can store 20 boards eaiser then storing 40 hoops. And hoops cost about $90.00 a doz and If they have to be shipped It's going to be alot more.
I'm not sure about drying time I can dry a beaver In 3 days on a board, never tried a hoop.
It's very important to get all the size you can and that Is better done on a board. And as you can see if you use hoops you will have to either place small boards over the leg holes to close them or sew them closed.
9/16" staples and a fur comb will get the job done In a hurry.
All the proffesional fur handlers around here use wood there must be a reason.
