Does anyone know the story for the Victor pans that are stamped WARRANTED?

The "warranted" stamp on Victor traps was started in 1910 when Oneida Community started cutting the "V" in the pans of Victor traps. It was to let you know that the Victor trap was Guaranteed.

Very interesting! In the Andreski/Parr book they show Oneida Community 1909-25 and the note "Some pans may be stamped Warranted - add 25%." So do you think that some had the Warranted and some didn't or did they all have it and then stopped putting it on at some point?

To add another twist - I have a rib jaw that I believe if was made between 1920-25 based on what I read on here at some point. I don't have it handy but don't think it has warranted on it. Do you think I have the date correct for the rib jaws and was there no Warranted during this time period?

Thank you very much for the pictures and your help!

The "Warranted" stamped Victor traps were made I think until about 1918. The traps were still guaranteed, but O.C. just stopped putting it on the pan. The ribbed jaw came out in 1920 so I do not believe that there was a "Warranted" pan trap with ribbed jaws. The 1925 date is when O.C. sold the trap business and it became Animal Trap Comp. of America. Here is an ad from 1920.

Did they change from cast jaws to regular stamped jaws during that 1918-1920 period? If that is the case that may be the hardest one to find.

Okay DiggerDale you got me figured out - I guess you are the seller? I think I have all of those in that bunch but there might be an upgrade or two for me.

I always figured the warranted on the pan was a marketing ploy... Kind of like the bait shop that guarantees its minnows to "catch fish or die trying".

Okay guys??? Look at my pan at the top and DiggerDale's warranted pan. On mine the Victor is in larger print and has Oneida Community NY USA. On Digger's the Victor is about the same size as the bottom print and does not have the USA on the end. Probably all kinds of minor variances out there.

Yes, many small variations, but they help to date the trap. I am not sure exactly when O.C. started using USA after N.Y. But, in 1914 the 1891 Truth in Labeling Law was amended so that the words "made in" had to accompany the country of origin on all imports. These traps were made in the US but if they wanted to export them they had to be marked.

They made a warranted made in Canada as well. I have only seen one size 0.

I have nothing clever to put here.

That is why you should not leave the conventions early, before I bring all those Canadian traps down. Rob

I have seen Victor warranted traps with "ONT." on the pan but I have not seen warranted traps with "made in Canada" on the pan. I would like to see them if you have photos.

Here's a neat one with the no pat date #0 Warranted ONT. Pan and USFWS (United States Fish & Wildlife Service) stamped on the under side of the base.

We have seen a lot of variations of the #0 Victor here and I really appreciate all the input and pictures.

Has anyone seen a #0 with VICTOR stamped on the jaws?
