**** Do you believe it should be a right to hunt, trap and fish in the State of Nevada?****

Then it's time to start filling up the comments on the legislative website to tell our lawmakers to amend Nevada's Constitution. The bill is known as SJR11 and it passed last session with a 74% approval from Senators and the Assembly, however we have some new lawmakers in office who have never heard from us. For starters we as sportsmen need to start commenting on the states own website and it's extremely easy!!!! Go to www.leg.state.nv.us
Once you are on the home page just scroll to the left and find " share your opinion". Once you have clicked on that then enter your info( this is kept private and allows the lawmakers if you are one of their own constituents ). Next type in the bill SJR11 and it will take you to that page. You are only allowed to comment up to 1500 characters but you can comment as many times as you wish. Right now there are more comments against and we need to change that. Please share this on other poster as we need to get 10,000 comments on this page as fast as we can. If you have any questions please feel free to pm us. Let's hear the sportsmen and women speak loud and send a message.

No, because it is on a public website, anyone can comment. CATCH... if you're not a constituent then your opinion will not be sent to a legislator. I think the opinions are sent to the appropriate legislator according to your address.

Me thinks... PLACE YOUR OPINION ANYWAYS!! laugh But then again who knows of I even know what I'm talking about.

Use the drop down box next to "select bill" in the gray column, scroll all the way to almost the bottom and click SJR11* OR type SJR11*... the * MUST be the name then follow the rest of the directions. Easy peasy.

The first hearing on SJR 11 (The Constitutional Amendment to Hunt, Trap and Fish) will be Tuesday March 14 at 1:30 pm. You c an videoconference in from Elko and Las Vegas. WE NEED FOLKS TO ATTEND THE HEARING. DON'T THINK THE OTHER GUY WILL BE THERE TO REPRESENT YOU . . . HE THINKS YOU WILL BE THERE.

Can I just claim "the strip" or "Freemont St." as my address?

Done.

Thanks to all those who appeared and testified at the hearing yesterday. The turnout was overwhelmingly in favor of hunters, trappers and anglers. This was just the first of many skirmishes on this particular measure. Now the chair of the committee will decide if the matter deserves a work session, following which the committee will vote on whether the pass it to the full Senate floor. If so, and assuming it gets passed, then it will be voted on by the full Senate. Again, assuming it passes the Senate, it then goes over to the Assembly and we start the whole process over again.

I really believe the way this measure is treated will lay the groundwork for how the Senate Natural Resources Committee will handle the anti trapping bills that we know are going to be coming out in the next few weeks. It was great to have so many well spoken, well respected folks from across the entire state take a stand on this measure. If you weren't able to participate, don't worry, there will be more opportunities but the successful turnout we had yesterday was due to those trappers, hunters and anglers who didn't believe "the other guy" would be there. Thanks again.

I'm sad to report that Senate Democrats have, despite the overwhelming support for SJR11, decided to kill this bill with no further hearings being permitted. Within hours of making the decision to kill this proposed constitutional amendment to protect hunting, trapping and fishing, Senate Democrats also introduced SB364 and SB365, which would outlaw trapping on public land (See my post pinned to the top). Apparently sportsmen's fears that legislators would end trapping in the state were well founded.

Of course, once trapping is eliminated on public land (Nevada is about 87% public land, with the remainder being cities), its an easy pen stroke to treat hunting the same way.

Its a sad day in my state.
