There is a post in the archives about using fishing leader material to make springs for squirrel traps. There was a link, but it no longer works. Anybody here still make springs? If so, what diameter would you recommend for squirrel- and or skunk-sized cages. Is there a better source than leader material?

Fishing leaders are made from braided wire of uncertain origin and materials. You would need SPRING STEEL and know the alloy for heat treating. Most any industrial supply house should be able to help you with what alloy for your application, and be able to order it if not in stock.

Below is a link to the wire that I use for the springs that I use for my homemade squirrel traps. The 105# test wire works good for me. I do keep several sizes of wire available though.

More wire sizes available-

Another other source of wire and springs-

Thanks for the links. I'll check it out. Need to increase squirrel trap inventory in the near future and hope to do so this late winter.
