Good morning fellas. Came back a little early trying to beat the cold front moving in to the interior. I was a little slow on my forecast. -30 degrees
at the cabin yesterday morn when I got up and -46 degrees at Tanana crossing. Had a good trip out pulling the groomer in some fresh snow. Overflow wasn't to bad this trip on the way in but on the way out was a different story. Picked up a 65# gray male in a AK #9 pee post on the way in to the cabin.

Pulled the groomer over some across a new line that was pretty cool. Made for a really nice ride when I was done.
Lots of fallouts in the ice again this week. I've seen that over the years even with low snow years after big wind storms. It's like the harmonics of the wind drop the ice like the weight of heavy snow does.

Picked up another beautiful gray male in a AK#9 pee post with a grapple. Drove right past it on the way out not even 20 yards off the trail. Maybe my eyesight is even worse than I thought. Caught his eyes in the headlight when I was grooming the trail.
Temps started dropping and snow was building which made for busy trap tending.

The view out front of the cabin Ended up getting a bit of frostbite under my left eye. I have no feeling in the left side of my face so guess
I'll have to pay attention to that in the future. Seen lots of groceries on the way in and out. Didn't take many pics as the temps were uncomfortable to my photogenic side.

Lots of twin moose calves this year. Picked up my first moose shed of the season.
Well got a couple hides to flesh and stretch today out in the shop. Stay warm all and safe trapping.

Good stuff as always buddy. I once tracked a trapped wolf up a river bank and didn't see anything. After running the line, I was coming back down the trail and I seen where he came down the bank right over my walking trail. Once I caught up and dispatched him I went back to see how I missed him. Seen that he was laying behind a 4 foot snowdrift the whole time no more than 25-30 feet in front of me.

See the Skandic is back on the job, getting up in Kms? Thinking a guy needs a Skandic and a lighter machine for just running around.
Nice job on pinching toes.

Nice work as usual JR. You've got your on little slice of heaven right there. When I ran dogs there was this cream we used to use to prevent frostbite, or at least help.....dont remember the name of the stuff but it might work good for you. Think Cold Spot Feeds used to sell it.

Made a quick trip out on the trapline. Pretty slow for fur but did pick up a #85 gray female in a snare and found my missing trail groomer. A moose had got tangled up with it and carried it 20 feet off the trail. 3" of fresh snow had hid it from me previously.

Lots of overflow after that cold snap. 30 degrees above this time though but it cooled down a little.

Picked up another small moose antler. The wolves had played with it a bit.
Lots of groceries running around this trip too.

The female wolf had a beautiful hide on her.

Heading back out to put a new bait out on Monday in a different area. Only spent 2 nights out at the cabin this trip. The wolves were around just missing my gear or not interested in the sets they did come by. Ordered a metal detector to help locate a few #9's that got swallowed up by the overflow.

Good looking amaguqs JR! I would get frostbite in the same area before I started doubling up my NO-FOG masks. I just cut 1 up so it fits inside the other, however I pull the inside one up so you have better coverage underneath the goggle area. Plus I dont even feel the cold down to -45 below. Best mod I ever did for my face. Im just curious what kind of camera you use on the line? it takes really good pictures!

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it!

Thanks guys, the pleasure is mine being able to be out doing it and sharing with those who appreciate the outdoors as much as I. Kinda funny, the other day someone asked me if I wished I was in Hawaii when it was so cold up here in the interior. My answer to them was, I am right where I want to be, the fact is, there's no place in the world that I'd rather be than right out on my trapline. No Place. Here's a few more pics from last week.

This is one of my catch-all sets dusted off. Picked up the female wolverine and a coyote in so far this season.
This is a typical wolf snare in the trail. I don't put these snares where the caribou tend to wander. Moose push them right out of the way. There is usually a pee post not to far from these sets.
The stove is full of stainless pots. Hot dish water in the stock pot, coffee in the percolator and hot water in the tea pot.
This is where a herd of caribou came through the other night and I didn't see a single bou that day.

Really enjoy your journal JR. Funny how the caribou are always on the move, there one day and gone the next. We have a couple of the AK #9's out of that dozen we got from you a couple years ago set and hope the wolves come thru. Will be setting a few more in a week or so. Thanks again for journal.
