Some of these otter traps have a long chain. 4-5 foot long and some have a short more standard length chain. Can anyone tell me which is correct or if both can be. ? Thanks.

Both are correct

All of the early models have the short chain. Some of the latter no paten date pans and all of the '02 pat. date pans and the "pat." pans have the long chain.

Unless there is evidence that the chain has been changed or is incomplete, I would not worry about the short chain. As a rule, it should have a long chain but there can always be exceptions.
