I am looking at a newhouse #4 1/2 in great shape. No chain or swivel, just the trap. Pan is printed as Onieda newhouse company 4 1/2 made in USA Litize PA. Also has property of us govt. stamped on bottom of springs.Any idea on value and does not having WOLF on the pan decrease it's value. Also curious on production date and any info would be appreciated.

Yes, it has what looks to be original spacers to off set the jaws. In all the on-line photos I have looked at, this is the only one I have seen with the spacers.

Also has US stamped on the outside of each jaw. Still wondering exactly what I have. Was it a special run for the us government and are the spacers original? Any thoughts?

The spacers are not from the factory, they would have been added latter. This model #4 1/2 was made by "Animal Trap Company of America" from 1925 until 1980. It is missing the chain and drag. The U.S. marks were some times stamped at the factory but the trap is the same. Some times the agency stamped the traps on there own. Some traps were stamped "Property of the U.S." or "Property of the United States" on the bottom of the base, this was done at the factory. The U.S. stamps do add some desirability but your trap does not have much collector value because of condition and being common.

Ok and thank you very much for the response. Looks like a good one to hang in the fur shed at home. Thanks again for your response.
