What if I'm trying to trap a skunk in my yard but I'm afraid it'll spray around my deck, house, or vehicle? Should I set the trap at the ~perimeter of my yard and see what happens, and just deal with the outcome.

Thanks. If they spray, does the spray carry pretty far if ya don't have a blanket over a traditional cage trap? Is Skunk spray harmful, or just an irritating nuisance.

"...but I'm afraid it'll spray around my deck, house, or vehicle..."
"I fear the day I catch 1 on my trapline."
Don't be afraid. Skunks are actually friendly little animals. They don't really want to spray. They just want to be left in peace even if it's just in a covered cage. I've caught hundreds over the past 10 years without problem.
On the trap line might be a little different but even there they're not as scary as you might think. Even Dave Canterbury can release a skunk out on the line without problems.

I release them from DP's while trapping coons during winter fur trapping season..... never have been sprayed. Of course I've dealt with hundreds of them in my wildlife control business, and can read them quite well.
Skunks under porches are usually very easy. Positive set using tube traps or a covered trap.

How that guy in the video got that Skunk not to spray is beyond me. At a WTA demo, I heard ya have 2 approach the set sssssslllllloooowwwww. Tho I'm sure covering the trap like u say is the ideal situation. I'm not a big fan of Skunk wether on my hunting land or under my porch. For 1, I've heard they eat turkey eggs. In fact I'm careful throwing out my food scraps cuz I think just about any food will lure 1 in.

I don't want any of you to go nuts about this hydrocloric acid thing. I got sprayed in the eyes about as badly as you can get sprayed. Although at first I thought I would never see again, what happened next was amazing. My eyes teared out, my vision was restored as clear as ever, and my eyelids never even got red. No red eyes or anything else to give a clue that I had been sprayed. Okay, there might have been a little odor, but once I got a half a mile away, you couldn't smell me at all.

LOL it kind of has a mix between spearmint and wintergreen taste but you think the smell has some staying power the taste power is times 10 stronger after that incident I have a whole new approach. Skunks cant see worth a darn move slowly and talk softly to them and you wont have any issues watch their back feet , if they get to prancing up and down your moving to fast. I have carried them in cage traps that weren't covered you just don't jar them on any thing set them softly down and move away slow
