.I have been lurking here and gleaning lots of good inf, have shared a little . In the past people have commented about adding another spring to a no l and making into an 11, but the other side of the jaw wasn't shaped right. Here's a post showiing a jig I made 30 years ago to reform the jaws on some styles of no 1's. It has been borrowed a lot.

this pic shows the jaw removed on the male part of the jig, some no 1's have a tapered jaw, which I do not reform, also I hammer the male part into the female part to reform the jaw.

This pic show a before and after jaw

This pic show how I compress the longspring in the vise to removejaws, Also on the crossframe, where the spring goes, one side is rounded and the other square, round the square one with a file , grinder ect, so it will guide the spring eye correctly when compressed.

I use visegrip to remove and replace the jaws, hold on to the crossframe with one hand and push-twist jaw in or out of the frame.

Here's the finish conversion along side of the no 1. I hope my payback is helpful. Thank you Cletis

Excellent idea Cletis! I just may have to make one for myself and convert a number of SC #1's into real coon takers.

I can't get over how simply an idea that is...and no one on here has ever posted something like that before! Good thinking and let us know about your next modification method.

Nice looking post. That always angers me to see a #1 turned to a #11, dont know why, just does. Must be a pet peeve of mine.

Thanks Mr. Cletis, they should work better. Sometimes the jaws dont want to close quite right, that mod should do it right. Have a bunch of them Ive turned into 11s,short springs and all.

Thanks.
I picked up a bunch of old #1s last year.
Now I know what to do with them!

Thats one heck of a vise you got there. How old is it? How did you come across it?

"When I came back in 1969, from a tour in Viet Nam was stationed at Perrin AFB in Dennison-Sherman Tx area, The base was in the process of shutting down and in my job duties I knew that vise was not on inventory so in a nice firm voice I declared THAT VISE IS MINE, WHEN WE STOP USING IT ANYONE CARE, and its been mine since 1971 how old it is I have no idea. matter of fact I caught, my first beaver in a 2 DL spring on a drowner slide in a little stream that left the base property. Been hooked ever since, wish I would have known what I know now about land trapping ,the fox coyote and cats were unbelievable around Lake Texoma. But we can't roll back the clock and if I could it would be more profitable to pick the winning no of large LOTTO'S. Cletis
