My squirrel job that I had turns into something else! I set cage traps up in attic with dried corn on the cob and have yet to have anything touch it? So I'm thinking the sound they are hearing in the walls are probably rat or field mice! Set 22 snap and Glue traps not the cheap glue traps but the big gel ones and the next check none of the snap traps are set off but one big sticky trap had something in it and it pulled itself out somehow? Trap was tied down so it couldn't be dragged off. Hair left on trap was gray about half inch long or shorter and I'm thinking small possum or pack rat? What do you guys think it is? Had Cheese and peanut butter crackers on that sticky trap!

No flyers this far west in Texas. I'm thinking it is one big rat there are some rat droppings but they have had rats up there before! If it is a rat that is one smart son of a gun and not very hungry!

We don't have gray squirrels around here all we have are red fox squirrels! Want eat any bait I put out and she hears it in the walls at night! Seen foot prints and tail drag mark so I know its a big old smart rat! I have never been humbled and embarrassed by any animal like I have this one! It's active at night and is asleep during the day or is gone out of the house? Saturday is my last day of trying to catch this thing! Costing me more money on gas than I'm going to get out of it and I'm not sure if I'm going to charge her anything but blocking intranet ways and attic vents?

For flying squirrels, gray squirrels, rats, and mice; my “go-to” bait is peanut butter and black oil sunflower seeds. The peanut butter is used primarily as a glue to hold the sunflower seeds to the trip-pan of cage traps or snap traps. Another benefit of the peanut butter “glue” is that it can tell me if bait is missing due to cockroaches or other insects (primarily ants). Cockroaches will eat the peanut butter but will leave the sunflower seeds. Rodents will eat the sunflower seeds or carry them away if not caught.

Might try the classic "Fried Chicken Bone". Use the tip of the wing, and toss a couple of extras around to prebait. Wire to a small foothold, #1 or #0, and bury it in the insulation, or make a cubby. This little Varmint is educated, see any trails? Make a flatset.

Did catch one medium size mouse on a sticky trap on my final day Saturday check! I then pulled all my catch a live traps and left the snap traps and glue traps for them to continue to check! I spent two weeks on this job and it was costing more money than the job was worth so I pulled out sealed off all the exits in the attic and around the house and charged for that! I know this person pretty well and they understand and well continue on their own! I'm not ready for any rat and mice jobs that far from my area so it was not worth the cost to me at this time! I lost money on this job and learned from it also!

Know what you mean about "something else." Lady said she believed she had gray squirrels the other day, common, I had no reason to question it. A hole had been chewed in the foot of a door in the hallway and there was some insulation on the floor that had come from above the stairway in the basement. Squirrels can do a lot of chewing. Set as usual, some corn, peanuts, some lure, put it in 6x6 swing panel traps with one door closed and one positive set, but surprise, no action for 6 days, which was a bit odd for squirrels that usually end up caught first day. Then she finally called, "I have something different in the trap, I think it's a rat." It was. Went right up and found I had a rat in each of the two baited sets. Don't get a lot of rat calls so unless someone says rat I'm not looking them. Rats seem to need time to get comfortable with a change in surroundings, i.e. baited traps, but after 6 days they were over the initial fear. Forgot how aggressive rats are in the cages and nasty creatures, easy not to like. In the past I have caught them in small single door squirrel sized baited cages all the way up to tight mesh single door large raccoon cages with pans.

Hmmm. That's called "New Object Shyness", it does take them a few day's to get used to something different in their environment.
