Thank you for reaching out to my office regarding Assembly Concurrent Resolution 25 (ACR-25) which determines the Fish and Game Council’s allowance of the use of enclosed leghold traps as inconsistent with the law adopted in 1984 which banned their use. I deeply appreciate hearing from constituents about the issues they feel passionately about as it allows me to better represent them in the General Assembly.
During my tenure in the General Assembly I have supported strengthening the prevention of animal ab use and protection of the quality of life for all animals alike. We must ensure that we treat all forms of life with care and carefully monitor all possible situations where abuse may arise. In the past, New Jersey’s elected officials have taken action by banning the use of enclosed leghold traps in our state. On November 20, 2016, me and my colleagues in the General Assembly approved ACR-25 to uphold the legislative intent of the current New Jersey leghold trap law. This measure currently awaits a full vote in the State Senate for its next step in the legislative process.
Thank you once again for writing to me regarding this issue. If you have any other matters of concern in the future, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,
Assemblyman Wayne P. DeAngelo
Deputy Speaker
14th Legislative District
