I just picked up a new to me property.
It has a larger than normal for here pond. The lady has a problem with geese messing up the dock and pontoon boat.
"10 years ago there was a pair and now there are 18."
I don't think she necessarily wants to get rid of them just keep them from messing on the dock and boat.
This is a very private lady and wants to keep it that way.
any ideas guys?

Maybe an owl decoy on a fiberglass rod. You want the decoy to move occasionally. It works for seagulls.

Help yourself.

Don't have first hand knowledge but apparently they're deathly afraid of snakes and fake rubber dollar store snakes are very effective at keeping them off docks, diving rafts etc.

Canadians take a federal permit to mess with.

Were I live there are many lake front properties with a huge population of Geese. The best control is to string some yellow rope about six or eight inches off the ground . This is a mini barrier that the geese wont cross.
I know what your thinking. It sounds way too simple, and the grazing poop machines will scoot under or hop over the rope.
Hard to believe but the geese won't cross the rope.
I use to think that some one in the area had a yellow electric cattle fence and every one else simply put up a decoy fence that the geese respected. I have never seen a cattle fence in the area . But I have seen many mini rope barriers that work.

Laser harassment works well. You especially want ot do this in the spring BEFORE they get nested and lay eggs.

No owls, no snakes, it doesnt work, period. You could go to laser harassme t for awhile. Go to bird barrier .com and look at the goose detterrent spray.

Canada geese are federally protected, so you can't physically harm them, other than legal hunting.
You can however harass them as long as they aren't physically harmed.
Aerosol sirens (the ones used for boats) are affective. Paintball guns can be effective, but make sure that you do not hit the geese. They do not like the sound of the sudden discharge of air, nor the projectile whizzing by them. Firing a paintball gun without any paintballs works too (it is louder that way). There are clear paintballs available online.

Lol. Customers of ours had bad problems this summer. Tried fishing line, chicken wire, rope, decoys...they even privately bought paintball guns and would send their kids back to the lawn to shoot them a few times a day. Nothing worked. Finally the season opened and I killed a half doezen. That did the trick.

Next year they are getting a nuisance permit to destroy them. Only legal option.
