Just glue some fiber fill or cut small pieces of sponge to some rat snap trap pans and anchor each trap along their travel ways and near their huts. They aren't called pack rats just for any reason.

You can put a few drops of some of our groundhog lure for attraction on the pan material for odor appeal.

Same same as barn rats.

I use my bait, and the pro model snap traps "yellow pan", when you set for them, set hard. When I do use the traditional traps, I like to modify them with three alterations. IMO it makes a big difference when using the traditional traps, and are very effective. These slight mods hit mice just as hard. Will produce on them old rusty weathered traps as well, just use a wire brush on the pan if rusty.

I use flashing when adding a pan to them, especially if I'm trapping outdoors.
