Blown in insulation? plywood deck? what's the layout of the attic? I would try to locate runs, entry points etc. When removing rats in an attic I use sections of 3 inch pvc pipe with snap traps placed in the front of the entry. If its blown in insul, the tunnels could go any which way, the pvc comes in handy. I'd place traps along rafters "top" if ridge is exposed and bottom if there's a soffit exposer, gable wall stud areas "pockets" and ceiling joists. They work well if placed in runs without bait too.
