Did all the OC Newhouses with the riveted pans come with stamped springs? Or is this kind of rare.....

Dale, They came both ways. The earlier ones were stamped, but are harder to come by than the non stamped springs.

Bruce were the riveted pans transition traps,,made with OC and ATC parts by ATC?

Seems like all the rivet pan newhouses I see don't have the spring stamp. I was hoping maybe I had something kind of rare....

Dale: I would think that the stamped spring in your picture is much more scarce than the trap. That spring with the large lower eye would have been correct for just a brief period.

PaulB: You would know better than me. It is marked Oneida Community I believe but has the large eye to accommodate the turned up base. Not a long time window. Get Bruce to chime in again.

cohunt,,I had a 91 1/2 riveted pan with that same spring,,but it was not stamped,,the spring was very strong,,I thought the spring was wrong and I think I must of sold it as I can not find it now,,,

The riveted pan Newhouse traps were made in sizes #0, 1, 1 1/2, 91 1/2 and #2. They all have the turned up base like a Victor, these were the last model Newhouse in these sizes. Even thought they are marked, Oneida Community, they were made by Animal trap Comp. of America after they bought out Oneida Community's trap business in 1925. These were only made a couple of years and then they were discontinued. Most do not have marked springs, but some of the #1 size springs and very few of the #1 1/2 size are stamped. There are also size #1, 81 and 91 with Animal Trap Comp. stamped riveted pans but I have never seen one of these with a stamped spring.

Paul, Those are up turned bases. No post. When ATC bought out OC Ltd. in Feb 1925, they got the whole ball of wax, including traps stock parts, machinery, tools, patent rights, trademarks, everything. Moved it all from Sherrill NY to Lititz, with the exception of the Canadian Plant at Niagara falls Ont. was left where it was. Under the business Purchase agreement, the first traps sold by ATC were traps obtained from Oneida in complete finished form. As new procedures were introduced in production, a marriage of OC Parts which included both structural and stamping changes.
To convey and stick with OC Marketing strategies and having other competitors in the trap making industry which I believe there were four others, but don't quote me on that, ATC did everything to take advantage of and capitalize on the OC reputation, so one of the first moves they made was to stamp all of their traps with the Oneida name. I do not know how long they concentrated on this and one would almost have to go into the production records to find out when they went strictly to the traditional ATC non stamped spring. They had all of the machinery to do with what they needed to do, which came into play again when the mold broke for the #3 ATC stamp pans, and for a period of time they brought the Pat Date pan mold out and were putting #3 OC Pat date pans on the #3 ATC's. Tom has a lot of the ATC literature which actually was thrown out and salvaged out of the trash. There may be production records to narrow down the time frame on the stamped springs. Dean, "Snakecollector" has a lot of OC literature and may be able to narrow down the exact time frame. Personally in my years of collecting, I would say I have had just as many of the large bottom eyed springs that were stamped as I have found that were not stamped.

Paul, Our season opens here on the 18th. Weather has been crazy and the bird population seems down in this area. Have not seen the birds like in the past. Youth season was this past weekend and the weather was crappy. Cold and very windy. The morels are popping though. Found 36 yesterday.
