Posting of photos for Tman is always a topic people are curious about.
I have put together this list of helpful sites and method that I will add to as I learn about more. There are many out there but this will work for sure.
For starters there are a couple of basic things that anyone wanting to put a photo on a website should no.
1. When you see a photo on a web site such as this.
What you are actually seeing is a photo hosted on a different site than Trapperman.
The address for the picture above is actually
http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k75/lfabich/trapping/av.jpg And if you go there all you will see is a photo. Try it!
Thus trapperman forums is just showing you a photo that is housed somewhere else. I offer this explanation as it is what stalls people out for the most part. How do you get a photo to show up on trapperman?
With that said in order to put on a photo to your post you need to be aware of some options for getting your photo onto a web hosting site. With this done you can then use the address to post in a trapperman thread so we can all enjoy your trapping photos.
Right now I prefer Photobucket.com to host my photos. For one it is free, it allows me to organize my photos and seems to be sticking around so that my photos in the archives will continue to show up for years to come. Some free places will purge photos every 30-60 days.
On Trapperman
Paul Dobbins has mandated that all photos be no larger than 640 pixels wide as it can be problematic to the board for people viewing. Also it is good to keep photos below 100k in size and preferably around 50-60 k in order for dial up users to continue to enjoy the experience of photos with their slow connections.
The following will walk you through hosting and editing your photos on photobucket.com You will have to register with them. However you will have the opportunity to build an archive of photos that you can use for years on the web. I register a new site for this post and it took only a minute or so to be done.
After getting an account you can begin to upload photos.
First you will need to be able to locate your photo on your computer. This is another topic. If you have trouble save a copy to your desktop so you can find it easier.
Editing you photos. There is a variety of options to edit photos and I personally use either photoshop or photoshop elements on my mac. Using programs as such gives you a lot more power to edit photos, size, sharpness, brightness and contrast etc. You can take a poor photo and really salvage it with a good program.
However if you don't want to be bothered with this and want to just get a photos on line the following will work fine.
When in your photobucket account I would first suggest making albums so that as you repeatedly add photos over the years you can keep them organized. Either by the year, subject or both. I refer to old pictures a lot and like to know where to look.
You can see that I have made a 07/08 trapping album in this sample account and within that I have made a beaver and lynx album. Not necessary but it will come in handy in the future.
Be aware that when you select "add new album" it will make one in the current album you are in.

When you are in the album you want just hit choose file and upload.
Now here is an important step. If you choose to use an unedited photo from your computer be sure you have selected in your options seen circled in red here the 640 by 480 options. It will down size the photo for you. A big time saver.

All photos uploaded in all your albums will be uploaded with this default. Saves you having to resize your photos. It does not get the memory as low as I would like to see it but pretty good. Around 100k
In addition to being able to resize you can also rotate a photo.

If you want to get the memory lower it will have to be redone on your computer usually saving at a lesser quality. Usually 50-60%. Be sure not to do this to your original photo.
You can now post your photo address on your tman post by choosing the IMG code on the bottom of the choices. The code will always have the brackets around the address
If you just click on the space it will automatically copy the location into your computer memory. On your post just paste it into your text. (Control V)

Now for a down and dirty way to get a photo on the web that you don't really care to find again and that may go away in a month or so go to
http://www.photolava.comIt has the options to resize, rotate and gives you the address to your photo. Very fast and the memory size you come up with will be around 75 k for a 640 pixel photo. They have no way to register however.
Good use of time in our blizzard!
