when I prep my traps I have a bioling pot and a waxing pot going at the same time. When I pull them out of the boiling water, they dry very fast and they're hot so it seems to leave a very thin layer of wax when I wax them. is there anything wrong with this way of doing it. It looks like other folks do it in a two step prossess

that should work fine , i do the same thing . i do let mine sit in the wax for a minute or so , that way if there is any water on them yet it boils to the surface and evaporates off.

I do mine in two steps. Wax has a higher melting point than water boiling point. The traps get hotter when the wax is separate, and gives it that real thin coating. Try boiling your trap and put a small amount of wax in another container ,and see the difference.Be careful with the hot wax, it can go up in flames if it gets too hot.

I wax at the same time as I dye them as well. Just like you said. Works for me.

Check out the archives on this. Their is good video of it there. I believe you want to dip them when the wax reaches 250 and leave them in the wax for approximately 15 seconds a piece (so the trap reaches the same temperature). Than remove it. Temperature is key. I would check the archive though on that number. That should work.

I also dye and wax at the same time and have not had any problems.
