Im in nc and got a call man has a couple otters in a pond. For one I know a few of the signs of their presence I dont know a whole lot about them as far as what is the most effective set. And I really don't know what to charge or how to price the job. Just started adc work trapped most of my life but never fooled with otters.

Pocket set with a number 2 on a drowner. Some target them with land sets. If you look around you should find a slide. A 220 should get it done.

Another words set up like im trapping beavers but with smaller traps and fish as bait. Would you charge a set up and per otter or a flat rate.

A sunken bucket set works well too. Big rock and fish in bucket, with a Coni at the mouth, sunk in pond/lake/river.

The normal fur trapping type sets and the bucket set works good with the fish wired to the bottom of the bucket. If not a strong trapping background and they have a fish basket that they keep fish in and the otter is stealing them a conibear in the entrance works great. A floating wire box like a fish holding cage with a colony trap door under water. Bait it with live fish. Zip tie noogles to the top of the cage so that it sinks just under water.
A small cage the size of a 220 or bigger surrounds by noogles zip tied to the entrance and about a foot deep. Put shiners or something not big enough to trip your conibear in the small cage. He will aggressively dive into the trap.
If you want to use a cage bait it with fish and cover the floor with indoor outdoor carpet like you see on the floor of a boat.
A section of culvert four ft. or so with a coni on each end. Hang a piece of aluminum foil or something reflective and sink it. He like to swim thru searching. I would use an otter type trigger set.
That is my primary methods of catching around marina's
As any fisherman knows an otter can't control himself when he sees a live fish

Sleep'n with an animal..I can help.
Do not use both feet when testing the depth or temperature of the water

I prefer to use their slide, rigged with foot trap on drowning rig. Close by on a point or something that sticks out just make a fake slide...no lure, foot trap on a drowning rig. Be pateint, they have a big territory here.

I have about 9 traps on about 1/2 acre pond two trail sets, 4 pocket sets with drowning rigs, and three with 220, 2 culvert sets. Baiting with shellfish bait. Cant use bucket sets in nc no more (law). Im out of options unless I can get one of the trout out of the pond and use it maybe. Dont know im stumped bad. And looking real bad to my customer. Please help me what do I do now

Not sure about where you are but our Otter might only go through an area every couple weeks.

This ^^ The otter are most likely gone for now. If the pond has a drainage below the dam I would make a few blind sets there with the body grips. Look for a narrow place to set. Also set them under water with a dive stick/pole to avoid coons, etc.

I say.... make a fake slide no bait and be patient...drowning rig.I saw your sets and no mention of a slide or any sort of set like this. I catch more on eye appeal than any thing else.... never had to bait one. Catch them in well hiden trail sets to,but if you dont have a trail make a slide..

I offset couple of inches, really depends on trap size...I use #5 bridger, shallow and solid.Give them a place to want to land, make a shallow shelf (hope that makes sense). Let us know how its goin.

Jimmy, if they're in a pond, they've got water access nearby. What's that water access? Show us a map and we'll show you EXACTLY where to place the trap. They're often coming from the same exact spot everytime.

I've caught my first otter just this past month(I don't do much otter trapping) when I was walking the river bank after the snow had melted, I saw an area that the otter(which I thought was anyways) were using as a "toilet" area... Went back the next day BC I only had rat traps with me and 110s, put in a #2 Bridger padded jaw, made 2 holes on opposite sides of the trap just in front and baited one hole with dobbins 'Backbreaker' and the other hole with dobbins 'beavers plus'. One day later, laid this beautiful looking otter! I surprised myself and was extremely happy. I tried posted pics earlier in a past thread but I have no idea how to that so I have pictures but can't upload them..
Goodluck! If I did it you sure can.

And I wouldn't use a 220 for a pocket set. I would make a blind set with those
