Ok I have lived in the same house since 1988. The only nuisance animals I have ever had has been raccoons Use to get 10+ year in the chicken coop. But it's been about three years with only one in that time frame

Anyway as many of you know I started my ADC company this year and here's that part you can't make up

The first year I was here I shot a couple of red squirrels and had never seen one since, until this year now that I'm doing this I have had them in the yard, in the attic ect. So I caught the last one a couple months ago. Then couple weeks ago I start hearing them in the attic again But I can't catch them and never see them

Then two days ago I'm in the basement checking mouse traps and...

This guy was on the floor with a mouse trap on his head. I took it out of the trap and he seemed to recover fine so I took it to one of my fur trapping properties an released it.

That is the cutest animal I have ever seen

We have never had these in our house either. It's like they followed me home

Every day is a gift from GOD, don't waste it!!

If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

You can tell that I'm getting old. I feel the same way about flyers. We haven't had them in our area for that long and every rehabber

wants some. As a matter of fact, we have yet to catch a flyer in the county in which we live and do the most work. I have found them

on my basement floor as well, but that was because I forgot to close the door on their cage properly.

Also like flyers. I bring them to a rehabber this time of year. Doubt their ability to make it through winter when removed from their nut stores.

Just gave an estimate to remove flyers from a home where they had knowingly lived with them since 1980. The home was handed down a generation and a new daughter in law said they have to go. The picture in your imagination of what that house may look like is probably pretty accurate.

The are common in our part of the State, they will feed at night at your bird feeders. The like sunflower seeds. When someone has a problem with noises at night, that is the first place I set a couple of small traps. The traps have to be set after dark.

Bob, in my mind I am painting a pretty vivid picture of the new daughter-in-law as well.

I'm curious about marrying into a family that wouldn't even set rat snaps to get the flyers out for 30 years. I'm guessing that's just the first few cornflakes that fell out of the collective box. I bet they are missing many more.

My whole family loves flyers. There just ain't that many of them around here, though, so I take special care when I have a job concerning them.

The last flyer job I did gave us house guest while I trapped out the whole clan. I kept them together until I had removed the entire colony and released them all together. But they were a lot of fun to watch while they occupied the bird cage in my living room. 16 altogether.

As far as cute goes, it's hard to out cute a flyer.

Of course, we did have to deal with the occasional escapee while opening and closing the cage to put more in.

BUT... I am happy to report that I got them all, all were released together as a family group and we left the cage in place with plenty of feed inside so that they could come and go as they pleased until they had established themselves in their new environment. The lady I took them to is a veterinarian with lots of experience with wild animals and she calls me from time to time to tell me how well her new population of flying squirrels are doing.

I'm looking forward to the next job with flyers.

The WCS Special squirrel trap is what we usually use but I don't have any trouble getting them to go into the 3x3x10 Sherman style either.

Find out what they are eating outside! Sunflower seed in a single door 4 by 4 trap works the best for me. I set the trap after dark. I like to work the bottom of the trap into the ground IF I can so they do not feel the wire. JMO

The way they go at my Fisher boxes, I'd say beaver is the best bait. My 02 got two flyers in the same 160 three days ago lol

We are polluted with them here. I shoot many around the house a year with 22 ratshot. Cute, sure...but get in anywhere!

We Put a 2x6 board out in front of the picture window at camp and put sunflower seeds on the board. At night the flyers would fly down from the spruce and feed, and chase each other.Good entertainment at the cabin after supper while having a few wobbly pops.

Flying squirrels love raw peanuts.

Flyers are my Achilles heel. I cannot bring myself to do them harm. Remove them when they cause problems, certainly. But I feel bad if I even stress them out. I am not known to be this soft, but dang those things are cute.

Take an empty soup can, nail it about six foot up on the side of a tree, and then fill it part way with raw, shelled peanuts. Once they find it, you will, eventually, have every flying squirrel in the county visiting it, nightly. They are cute little buggers.
