We have a three thousand square foot cottage here on the bay that we look after. I have had my crew go over the place twice with steel wool, metal flashing...everything possible to seal up any holes letting the mice in. No affect. Beginning of the year, I trapped thirty mice before the customer came up, with traditional mouse traps.

We have a pest control guy who keeps the poison traps filled, and the mice keep emptying them. The customers cat killed at least 5 a week, all summer.

So now that the customer is gone, I had one of my guys make up five "mickey swim meet" peanut butter buckets, with antifreeze in the bottom.

The first night I killed 47, in her main cottage, and the rental cottage on the same island.

There were no mice in the place two years ago.

Now, we figure we are back to five a week...

The bucket traps are working awesome! Wish I could find where they were coming in!

Mice are great climbers and can make entry into places the average individual doesn't think that they can fit through. You not only have to look low but also at elevated entries. They can climb across cables and tie offs to boats etc.

Well, this is a huge island,...big enough to support at least two Fisher...(wink)

Anyway, lots of nice to try and get in anywhere possible. We have surveyed branches overhanging the place, electrical wire holes...the issue is, it is a nightmare of a place to check. The beams are scribed to the rock in places, it is all wood, and the roof is rough split cedar shakes...just a cluster of gaps ....not to mention a huge stone fireplace...

Put a match to it that will get rid of the mice, then get the insurance to build a new modern airtight.

The place is ten years old. I helped build it.

It was easily a million and a half to build. You should see pics. The kitchen alone was close to seventy grand. lol.

As with all the sleeping cabins on the place, high end. BUT, that doesnt mean the hand split shakes easlily keep critters out, simply by design.

Interior is clear basswood, three bathrooms...barnboard floor. The flooring was ten bucks a linear foot, just for the raw material.

Post and beam....

Now you see why the frustration. Last winter was the first winter we had any type of mouse sign.

It has been fine for years.

The answer is right in front of u. Ur more than likely over thinking it. Have a fresh pair of eyes go over the structure for entry points.

Oh, I am not done with it. The ice is coming though, and I won't be able to access the place till winter, but I am planning on sending some guys out by sled to watch for tracks in.

Just need to keep em knocked down till then.
