I have heard that at campgrounds, they learn quickly to unlock and open ice chests to go to food. I had one that would go into the cage trap and eat the bait but avoided the trip pan for 4 days. She even dug into a sardine can that was tied to the trigger bar but only enough to get to the easy stuff in the can. I eventually caught her on Mc. Donald's french fries by throwing them in the back of the trap and jamming some under the pan to make her dig for them. Yes, they can be very smart.

Budfish, the coons in Gulf State Park in Orange Beach, AL. Definitely know how to unload locked coolers. I used to camp there every year and learned to keep my stuff under lock and key and was on guard they didn't pick my pocket looking for the key.

The little rascals had even learned to tug on your pants leg with one paw while holding out the other for a handout.

David, they also learn which campers are an "easy touch". I think they've got you pegged.

Easy touch, my foot. They reminded me so much of Obama voters I figured it was a mugging. Pay up or they would riot.
