I've gotten another nuisance bobcat call. Just like the previous ones, this old widow's bobcat is hanging around her backyard scaring her (she says it was on her fence one night and took a swipe at her) and actually coming up to the backdoor and windows to interact with/threaten her pets. Seems like it's a territorial thing, not that the cat is hungry. So far I've placed beaver meat, gland lure and catnip in two cages and one has a squeaker but the beaver meat won't last long in this heat and I feel like I'm on the wrong track. Any ideas?

What about using a squirt of bobcat urine and a visual?

Put out some trail cams to see if that tabby has a collar. smile
We get a lot of imaginative callers in this business.

He may be backing out before he is in far enough. The presentation may be affected by the width of the trap, as well as door height and length. If you are doing cubby sets, how he is able to approach to investigate may be causing the problem.

If you haven,t already, try using traps or a trap that is at least 12" wide. Door height when set of at least 17". Treadle or trigger set for a 36" trap and use a 40" or42"L trap. The cat would have to be in the trap further to get to lure and visuals. The wider trap would not allow him to get as good of a determination as to what was there (from the outside), making him more likely to go in or at least keep investigating.

I use a 10" wide trap 38"L trap the most because it is less expensive and easier to carry, not because it is the most effective.

I would try a trail set, or trial combo set, double door cage, urine, gland lure, or maybe some cat rub on a stick.
